oh and the tyres are brand new only covered 3000 mile

When I had a puncture repaired, I used Merityre. PivUK on the forum works for them at the Thame branch but one has recently opened in Purley. I changed it soon after as I prefer to know the tyre is in one piece rather than patched for saftey, what's a hundred quid against your safety?

Whereabouts in Hampshire are you? I've had bad experiences with Micheldever Tyres and Merityre in Andover on more than one occasion, but if you're in South Hampshire, Barmer Tyres by the Asda in Chandlers Ford get a big  from me. They'll repair the puncture if it is repairable.

Chris

Its only not repairable if its near the sidewall (the tyre flexing causes the patch to come apart) if it's near the centre, it should be repairable.....

im near alton, aldershot area, and the screw is in the main tread of the tyre

If it's not near the edge of the tread, a proper repair will be perfectly safe. I've had them done many times.

Don't have it repaired if it's at the edge of the tread as it will eventually fail.

A proper plugged and vulcanised repair should be OK as long as the damage is relatively small diameter and not through the sidewall at an angle. In the main tread, you should be OK for sure. Some tyre places will spin you the old "you cannot legally repair a H/V/Z/W rated tyre" routine, but this is just a ploy to get you to buy a new tyre.

i know how you feel. I found a nail sticking out of my 4000 mile old goodyear f1's the other week. took it to the garage to see how deep it went and when the guy was rolling the tire to the machine he goes, "its not a nail, its a screw". and that was that, one 3 inch nail plus a 2 inch countersunk screw on the same tyre  needless to say it was replaced

GF had to replace two decent rear tyre after some little charmers at her school put a nail each in them. Both in the shoulders of the tyres so they were trashed. She was needing 2 fronts anyway.

She has to go to Quick **** since they were they only local garage with them in stock for less than

Most if not all tyre places will repair (if as said before it's not near the shoulder of the tyre) get most of my stuff done at ATS as it's the nearest place and they are no problem

I like my local ATS also, they seem to be genuinely good guys and have gone out of their way for me on a couple of occasions.

What' s the position now on fitting inner tubes ? Used to do that regularly on the Mk 1 Golf and cheap as chips !
