Can I jetwash my engine bay?

Featured Replies

ive pressure washed a few engine bays before and aslong as your sensible about it and dont blast hoses and seals at close range and be aware of electrics itll be fine imo. as said though the use of a good degreser would aid in any cleaning.

Hi guys,

There was a picture in an old post many moons ago of a furby vRS engine bay with the important bits that needed covering to protect them from water marked. Has anyone got that picture still?

i do this all the time blast with the jetwash on soap despense brush everything with a big jetwash style brush then power wash off.

I don't cover anything up. I normally jet wash whilst car is running.

I've washed all my cars this way, never had a problem:thumbup:

I used a large plastic sheet that they sell in the poundshops and cut it in half putting one end across the air filter and all electric bits, and the other at the front arranging them both as appropriate.

Lidl had an engine cleaner for 99p a can recently which worked really well for me. It also seems to have something that makes water sheet off in it, protecting the engine as well. I'm seriously considering going back and stocking up :)

See http://www.an1.co.uk/DSC00423.JPG for the results. I cleaned the top plate whilst it was removed so that got cleaned better, but I have an oil leak below it. Bear in mind this engine probably hasn't been cleaned since the car was bought in 1994, and has had an oil leak for a while.

Ok thanks for the advice guys. I'll check out that polished bliss guide too. I was just being lazy and wanted the Furby specific guide as i'd hate to drown my car. I've spent last weekend clay baring, polishing then sealing it and it looks new untill you lift the bonnet. :P
