Brake lights not working

Featured Replies

The break lights next to my indicators are both not working, while high level brake light is. I thought this may be a fuse issue but i can't identify a different fuse for the lower level brake lights. I have tried to check all of the fuses by sight but none appear blown.

Can anyone suggest what may cause the two lower brake lights to fail?

Two blown bulbs.

Are the two bulbs likely to blow at the same time?

Welcome to Briskoda.

Would be the cheaper option changing the bulds before looking into it deaper.

Vary rare, but yes both could pop at the same time.

Yep, but having said that do you know they blew at the same time? How often do you check them?

I noticed my brake lights were out yesterday whilst the highest one worked . Is it just replacement bulbs then or could it be something else ?

Just change the bulbs!

If you had a headlight out, You'd just change the bulb, And not stress about it being something more serious!

Sorry for the little rant, But there's so many of these threads popping up atm!

So simple and most obvious first, If that doesn't work, I sure the collective knowledge and experience of the forum will guide you through to a satisfactory solution to your problem!

And you want 382 P21W bulbs!

Although people say one bulb may have been blown for a bit, while this may be true, I do have my suspicions it isn't all that unusual for bulbs to blow at the same time. Let's see, the bulbs will likely have been made on the same production line to the same spec, they've been installed in the same car, they've been switched on and off and turned on as long as each other - in all probability they failed within a short time of each other.

Had the same with energy saving light bulbs recently in a 3-way fitting in my lounge. All three bulbs died within a few weeks of each other.

If too lazy to buy bulbs, at least swap for the reversing bulbs as a short-term measure. Prevents being pulled over by the police and people crashing into the back of you. As above post by Mike, it seems a pair of bulbs for a couple of quid is too expensive for most people these days  Personally I think everyone should aim to carry a set of spare bulbs in case they ever need them - while it's not law to carry spare bulbs specifically in this country, it is the law that your lights work - and having the bulbs enables you to ensure this.
