Centre caps required...

Well, I have just had the pleasure of parting with

why not look at things the other way - you could get chrome rubbing strips, door handles and wing mirror surrounds, so that they then match and add to the effect of the chrome wheel centres ;)

I've heard that many uk tyre shops carry plain matt silver stickers for centre caps. Also you can remove the wheel, knock the centre out easily towards the axle side. Clean well, perhaps key with a little extra fine sandpaper, spray them with a matt silver aerosol spray and then clear lacquer on top.

If it was a vRS I'd mention that there's a GB on adhesive inserts atm on here, but since it isn't I won't......

I've been told by Forge that they once did some custom ally ones with o-ring seals but I think that was a one-off. They probably have the CNC file on PC somewhere but it would be costly I'd imagine.....

Thanks for the info....I am assuming you refer to the inserts I want not being for VRs alloys, but I will look up the GB.

Cheers,

Steve

another thought - if the centres obviously don't match, it may be that there's a chromed piece stuck over top of the original. Might be an idea to try a solvent or heat gun approach to coax them off, followed by a good clean afterwards....

Thanks for your help.

They are the original caps, and are the 4 inch (ish) wide ones rather than the little centre caps. The are fully chromed plastic so I think a re-spray is the only way round it. I even took some sand paper to the back to see if I could dull it down a bit, but this had NO effect!!

Any more for any more?

Do you know of any shops that sell the matte centre stickers?

Steve

I was told about the tire shops having matte centre stickers a few months ago when I wanted to do summat about the centre caps myself. No specific names tho'.

Perhaps a combo of Yellow pages, and a work phone will yield the info. Just let your fingers do the walking, and do post the info up here if you find them....

A mini-respray might be the best way to go fwd otherwise....

I've heard that there are some talented machinists here on Brisk - perhaps with a sample you can persuade one to make you some custom caps from Ally?

Personally I like 'em as they are, but Skoda do do some large diameter center caps but I'm not sure what size they are.

Nice choice btw, was'nt expecting you to be modding your car so soon  . Slippery slope now though, thought about a remap yet ;)

Have a look on flea-bay as they often sell them on there.

When I had 18" RS4's on my Mk1 Octy vRS, I got some SKODA centres in black and chrome from a seller called Motor_licious on there, give him a PM via flea-bay and see if he can help.

Thanks for the compliment - pic to come soon, and you will have to check them over on the 17th...

It is just the mixture of the matte chrome and the chrome plate for the middle 150mm that grated. For the time being I have removed them and might try and find some small centres for the middle section (60mm or 65mm).

I don't suppose you know if the caps for the Mk II are larger than for the Mk I btw? My old centre caps from the 16's are a fraction too small.

And yes....I have thought about the map!

Will keep looking.
