Shuddery Fabia on Tick-over

Featured Replies

I have just got a 2000 X Skoda Fabia 1.4 Classic 8V which seems to run fine when moving but it is very shuddery when the engine is running and it standing still. My daughter sitting in the back describes it as feeling like being kicked in the back.

Any ideas?

Thanks David

Sounds like the kind of misfire you might expect if the ignition coil was beginning to deteriorate, just my humble opinion!

The 1.4 8v can be a little shuddery they cut the idle speed right backl to meet emmission regs. I run mine on super unleaded and it sorts it nicely. However the shuddering you describe seems a fair bit worse. When was it last fully serviced plugs filters etc?

Thanks for the suggestions

It has only had oil change services for the last two years so I will change the plugs next week and will try the super unleaded on next filling up

Plugs filters etc maybe a scan with vagcom to check for any faults. Also if you can try to use Skoda plugs, something I have always done is use genuine parts for service items.

My MPI "judders" a bit ,but not to "kick in the back" levels, just a 'fudd-uddud' and drop of about 100 revs occasionally.

What you're describing sounds a little more severe, as others have said, get it checked on a diagnostics.

My girlfriends 2000W 1.4MPi also shudders and the revs drops sharply when first starting off, dipping the clutch does save it a bit but not completely.

I thought this was the sooting up of the throttle inlet chamber?

There is a message some time ago showing how to clean the housing.

John

y reg 2001 1.4 and always done it for me too. Not been described as that bad tho as my family sit in back at times. among the faults thisis one of the minor ones

Mines the same (thought not as severe) and was told by skoda that it's a characteristic of the engine.

Mine is always a bit juddery at a stand still and the rev needle jumps around a bit.

I wondered if this caused bad fuel economy with the engine ticking to fast?

If it's petrol it might be worth doing a Throttle Body Alignment.

Think I have read something on here before about that but have no idea what one is or what it requires and if I put it in the garage for it would it be costly.

It's a 2 minute operation that can be done with either a dealer tool or VAG-COM.
