yet another problem PAS

Featured Replies

not even 24 hours out of the dealership and my vrs has sprung a leak from the power steering mechanism.

fluid in the top, leaking out over the near side driveshaft/wishbone area.

i haven't had chance for a daylight look as i have only just finished my day job.

any points to note in this area? or am i going to be "lucky" enough to have a loose union/pipe?

if i keep enough fluid in, will i be ok using the car as i have to do a 45 mile each way trip tomorrow to pick up my new bike?

how much fluid does the vrs hold when the system is working properly?as i want to know how quickly its loosing it,it doesn't seem to take that much fluid to get it working again, and it will last ok so long as you don't do too much slow town driving.

really getting hacked off with skoda ownership now.no way will i be tempted back i'm afraid, such a nice car,far too many problems with my particular one:(

its seems that the rack is pishing fluid into the gaiter on the steering arm.

where the rack meets the arm its tubular the rack is letting the fluid out through this tubular part.

car is sat in the garage now awaiting a price on a new part/rack.

any idea on price/labour time on replacing this part of the rack?

No help with the immediate problems beyond that, provided you accept that you will need to use way more force to turn the steering, a car with failed PAS remains drivable.

On the point of the rack failure, am I understanding you that you've owned the car less than a day total? If so, then the supplier is responsible for repair (basic Sale of Goods, nothing to do with warranties).
