110 TDi lack power again

Featured Replies

Last Tuesday I was driving into Bristol, and I pulled out to overtake a JCB and a learner trailer-puller driver. I got to 70mpg in 3rd and the car would not pull any more - even though it has not hit the rev limiter. I changed to 4th, and it felt dead and refused to go over 70. The same applied in 5th as well. The car felt really slow and unresponsive for the rest of the journey.

Once I was done in Bristol (20 minutes later) i got back in the car to drive back to Salisbury. As soon as I pulled away I could feel the car felt slower than normal (but not as bad as after the 70mph thing). The car would go over 70 (has been up to 90), but feels slower than before.

I have just vag-com'd it and got back:

1 Fault Found:

17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation

P1557 - 35-00 - -

So that means, I guess either:

- MAF

- n75

- sticky turbo

But being that all was fine, and then suddenly it went wrong - now what?? All 3 items were replaced about 18-24 months ago (iirc).

Any ideas?!

I'd agree with your diagnosis, and the only thing I'll add is go and log the MAF output (expected and actual) in a flat-out blast round the block, in case the MAF is playing up.

I'll have a go at the MAF actuals later - vagcom throw a wobbly when I started the car earlier :-(

Last thing I did was to clean the EGR out which seemed to have cured things since then, until now :-(

But why should it suddenly fail just as I am trying to use some power?
