Alarm goes off when the boot is open

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is the ONLY irritating thing about my Octy II - just wondered if there was a way of stopping it...

Picture the scene, busy Tesco carpark, my trolley full of the shopping, I push the remote, and all the doors make that clicking noise. First thing I do is open the boot and start putting the shopping in. After about a minute - before I've had a chance to get to the doors, the alarm goes off, and everyone thinks I'm stealing someone's shopping.

The only way round it seems to be this - hit the remote to unlock, open boot, run round and open any door, then load the shopping.

Anyone know of a way to stop the alarm turning itself on if a door is not opened?

You have a very strange problem there, this is not meant to happen and does not on mine, a trip to the dealer perhaps?

Do you have a boot-only button on the key fob? The Fabia did, and it disarmed the alarm without the need to do door opening (which is a pain!) until the boot was closed again then it would be re-armed, so you'd then have to unlock the car again.

Mondeo just lets you unlock the car and then opening the boot or doors disarms the alarm and it doesn't attempt to relock ... but it does mean while you're loading your shopping someone can hop into the car and nick your stereo!

Yes, it's got a boot-only button on the fob which I guess I could use. I'd still have to fish it out of my pocket again when I wanted to open the doors though. I just think it's a bit odd that once I've unlocked the car, it decides all by itself that it's going to re-alarm itself, just because I haven't opened the doors yet...

Is the alarm factory fit or an aftermarket one ?

I have a factory fit one and never had an issue like mentioned.

I dunno what the internals are like but maybe whatever gives the boot open closed signal ain't operating correctly. Remember before cars had like 3 spring loaded pins to make contact when the boot was closed, maybe something is stuck.

When your boot is open does the display on the dash show it open ?

Mine doesn't do this either. If I unlock the car and don't open anything, it relocks when the interior light goes off at about 20secs.

But if I open the boot, the car will not lock itself again, even after I shut the boot and don't open the doors.

now that's a good idea - I've just looked and it doesn't. There's a "doors open" warning when the door open, but neither that light nor any other one lights up when the boot is open. Looks like you could be right about the "boot open" sensor.

Good thinking, thanks

Cool, the boot on the display should go white when boot open.

The other thing I was thinking after I post (while in gym   ) is if there is a problem with a switch then how does the alarm know that the boot it open.........or could it be the motion sensors picking up the breeze, and hence knocking the alarm off. Maybe tried pressing the button on the bottom of B-pillar to disable the motion sensor then lock car, arm alarm and open boot like you did in shopping centre.

Just checked my car, mine WILL NOT lock itself if only boot open/closed.

Hopefully one of the techie's might point you in the direct of the right switch/sensor.
