not trying to look stupid

but does a dump valve help on a TDI? or just with petrol engines... sounds stupid i know, but i have no idea, hence the question:rofl:

Dump Valve?

Is this to enable the driver to go for a No 2 whilst still doing warp speed in lane 3?

Will it work with heated seats?

Haha i was once told by a ch@v that the dump valves work off the oil pressure:eek::eek::eek: Brill at full boost the turbo looses oil pressure cracking idea  :(

They dont work on diesels becuase diesels dont have a throttle butterfly/body. On a petrol when u take ur foot off the go peddle the throttle closes, but the turbo is still spinning and creating boost. this pressure builds between the turbo and the throttle body causing the turbo to stall. A dump valve prevents this by opening (wooooootussssssh noise) and releasing the pressure to keep the turbo spinnning, ready for when u plant your foot again. :D........I think ;)

but the oil pressure dumping is a much more realistic answer :rofl::rofl::rofl:

I would have been tempted to argue that the dump valve was that thing screwed into the bottom of the sump... ;)

Less oil = less weight and less drag from big ends = faster car right?

;) that'll work

and of course, if you're running no oil, you might as well save some more weight by taking the whole sump off alltogether. Also the airflow will help keep the big ends cool and the flow to the intercooler will be improved.

Can we call this Pikey Mod 4?

Actually thats not as daft it may sound:rofl: Many rally cars run dry sumps. Its one of the things i still have to do on the golf. A dry sump kit can reduce the turning friction of the oil on the crank and reduce the likelyhood of oil starvation under extreame cornering. i have bilsten coilovers and when coupled with slicks the car can pull some serious g's in the corners........Think what happens to the oil in your sump under these forces. ;)

Weld some baffles in and save the hassle, I have a baffled number in my golf, but for the life of me cannot remember where i got it. Possibly Mike @ golfnutz

there is worse one of the local youfs has a dump valve on a 1.2 16v corsa and that doesnt even have a turbo lol

But in short - nope it has no useful effect to fit a dump valve on a diesel :)

The g60 PG engine code came from the factory with a baffled sump but they are getting like hens teeth. I practiced welding baffles in a spare sump i have but my welder (on its lowest setting) is too powerful and just blew holes in it. :D

Best day of my life, yoouf comes into work, "need a dump valve" i say what car thinking he will reply with something like scooby etc, but no "micra!"

I asked him if he had a turbo on his micra to which he replied " whats that got to do with it" so i explained how dump valves work and he asked the funniest question in the world............... can you guess..................." do you do turbos"......Halfrauds turbos????...................i nearly kealed over with laughter.

lol thanks for the replys, i was just wondering... yeah there are barry boys who buy the electronic dump valves :S... completely pointless and makes u look an idiot

Ta neway

I used to work in a ripspeed in scotland :o very similar stories including one chap who cut the pipe from the plenum to his airbox on his golf and jubilee clipped a dump valve in and complained he couldnt get it to work, the scary thing was he was our stereo fitter
