Cant Decide Petrol or Diesel

Featured Replies

I'm soon to be ordering the New Hyundai i30 but I have a choice of 2 1.6 engines and the choice is driving me nuts

Theres a 1.6 122BHP Automatic and a 1.6 115BHP Diesel Automatic,

The choice is driving me nuts, but I won't be able to test drive any auto's just a manual. The Petrol is going to be

If you can't test drive it don't order it. What of the auto box is a shocking pile of sh**e?

There is no reason a diesel shouldn't work well with an auto but you have to drive it first.

I'd agree - if the gearbox is set up well on the diesel, it should be quite good to drive, but plenty of gearbox's are badly setup and don't get the best out of the engine.

In terms of choice - which do you want? Diesel will be more economical and if it's a good one, should hold its value better. Petrol will likely be more fun but will probably take a bit more work to keep on the boil....

I'd agree too. I'd not buy something I couldn't test drive.

On the general point, a well set-up auto box is ideally suited to a diesel engine, but finding a well set-up auto box is generally impossible IME. (I don't like autos, but my parents do, so I've driven several.)

I'm going to stick my neck out here, but at 19 how can you afford all these new cars?

I work for a living lol!

Thinking about it, reckon it's going to have to be the diesel no matter how it drives because Im now doing alot more driving for work,

at least i can re-map it:thumbup:

and if anyone wants a decent golf sized hatch with high tuned engines, standard ESP and a shed load of other stuff Hyundai UK - i30

VAG TDI's and DSG work very well.......

As others have said though I'd want to be testing both before even considering an order

Edit: The i30 looks nice from the back end (BM 1 Series?)... not so sure from the front.

Yeah, I will have to wait so I can test drive an auto me thinks. Yes it does look like a 1 series, especially if you see it for real but the solid front grille makes it look like a polo bluemotion
