Dodgy map?

Featured Replies

Evening.

Picked up a vRS t'other week that had been previously remapped by a local garage.

I'm getting lots of soot (black) under hard acceleration, a whistling (kettle like, not turbo like) noise from the turbo and a bit of judder under idle. The soot has dropped a bit with a quick blast and some Millers but it's still evident.

The soot makes me think it's overfueling to bump up power, would I be correct?

Going to get a Jabba custom after I've finished my modding plans but just wondering if my diagnosis was correct.

Also a tad worried about the whistle, did a lot of searching before my purchase and the common view was that it was normal and "some do it".

It would appear to me ( your average amateur expert ) that your car has been 'under utilised '.

The whistle is normal, the soot 'may' mean it just needs a good blast and maybe a new air filter.

before spending money on a custom map. try and find out where your map came from, as it may well be a custom map to someone else with different driving styles/preferences and may be adjustable at the original mappers for less money than the remap that's already on it.

Your location may be a clue as to the mappers.

Put a green cotton on it today. The remap would have been done in the Colne/Burnley area.

Turbo Diesel remaps work by putting more fuel into the system, and increasing boost, more fuel = more soot, more boost = different turbo sound. Its common for remapped fabia vrs's to smoke a bit, all diesels smoke when mapped, but because of the straight out the back exhaust on the vrs, its more obvious compared to the downward facing exhausts.

I think I just said all of that......

( apart from the Colne bit...thick Lancastrians, I should have kept my finger still )

I'm not from up there, just where I bought it ;) (it's like the end of the world up there)
