I found this HID kit on ebay am I right in thinking the bulbs needed to replace the dipped beam are H4? Do you need a high low kit so that you still get your main beam?

That's the very ones you need.

A standard HID kit will take a single voltage and output a single voltage, this is good if your Main & Dipped beams are separate - like the Fabia and most other VAG cars.

As the Octavia only has one bulb, the Bi-Xenon HID kit will take two feeds, and adjust the bulb fillament when you flick to your main beams rather than the dipped.

You can get various colours, not colours as such though. They're referred to as Temperatures - measured in Kelvins.

The most popular is the 6000K temp - which give off a deep blue light without being too OTT - the higher you go the more colour and less brightness you get.

So, if you go for 4300K you get very bright HID's - but closer to OEM bulbs, less blue. If you go for 120000K bulbs you get a pretty much Purple colour - though they're not as bright as the others.

It's a shame you can't get "proper" colours though - I think Green would be ideal for a Skoda

Aftermarket HID's like this kit are illegal.

I beleive for them to be legal you require your headlamps to have washers, projectors and also be self levelling. Don't quote me on that though.

I've had HID's on my Ibiza and also my Toledo (For about two and a half years all in) and never had a single problem with being pulled over, being flashed and also sailed through two MOT's.

Again - its going to be one of these things like having fancy registration plates... what the beat are like in your area and who does your MOT.

I have been driving with a H4 HID kit for about a year now. I am not impressed and the Octavia H4 headlights are not suitable for HID fidment. The spread of the light i too much so you end up blinding others unless you adjust the headlights to point down. But pointing them down you will loose the effect of the great light that xenons give.

hi everybody. i just purchased a new skoda laura 1.9 diesel in india. i want to convert the headlamps to hid's. i have identified the philips xenstart d1s as a replacement for the low beam. i want to know if the bulb can be fitted straight into the car without any modifications. also, was looking for which bulb i could use to replace the high beam (h4) lamp with a hid without any modifications. thanks.

I think the original Skoda HID's are Osram Xenarc D1S (The Philips Xenstart D1S is compatible and can be used instead). They won't fit in halogen headlight assembly. The fitment is different. Also for the D1S you'll need a ballast for each xenon bulb.

The high beams are H1 and dipped beams are H7 when car is equipped with halogens. If the car is equipped with Xenon dipped beam, then the bulbs are D1S for dipped beam and H1 for high beam.

So your only option is to buy a aftermarket HID kit I'm afraid. (They're not road legal, but that might not be a problem).

Or if you want to spend some serious money, then you'll need a new headlight assemblies which have xenon dipped and halogen high beam, levelling sensor kit for dipped beam autoleveling, headlight washers (if not already equipped) and a new rheostat control for dimming the interior illumination.

i have the headlamps for the d1s kit but havent found anywere that they do this kit and from skoda main dealer its a fortune!!!!
