Considering Octavia

Featured Replies

I currently have a Felicia at the moment, and thinking about changing to an Octavia at some point over the next 12 months.

I like the idea of a 1.8 or 1.8 T model, with a bit of power. I have test driven a 1.9tdi Ambiente, which was really nice (on a Y plate with 63K for

Richard, my first Skoda is my current Octavia Tour (MK1), have it for only 7000 Km (like 4500 Miles).

Only found a little rattle on rear, looked on briskoda.net and vwvortex.com and folks sugest me that i need to twist the little rubber niples on the back of seats in order to get it quiet, well this worked for me.

I have the 2.0 engine with auto trans, electical windows/locks/inmobilizer and mirrors.

On HW i can reach easily 160 plus KPH (100 plus MPH) and the car feels solid on road and on mountain roads, thinking first that the car is heavy, handles very well.

I only can say that the Octi is a fine car not well know by people out there, GO FOR IT!

BTW, last car was a Renault Twingo 1.2, manual trans.

Most of the common issues with the Octy seem to be specific to the vRS, or relate to the engines (particularly the plastic impellor waterpump and the VVT on the TDi110 (TDi).

Cheers for the advice - best keep saving!

Worn ARB bushes

Plastic Impeller ( As above)

Stuck Flap Motor

Broken radiator mount

Also worth noting that the 1.8T fitted to non-VRS models is actually the same engine - so you can remap it (

I thought the 150bhp engines didnt map to the same power levels as the vRS?

Be daft to do it without better dampers and brakes, but if they have the same injectors, cams, turbo and intercooler, why wouldn't a 1.8t150 remap to 220bhp or so?

As far as I can recall facelift (post 2001) 1.8t Octy Mk 1s basically are the same engine and turbo etc and will map the same. However, the earlier pre 2001 non-drive by wire 150bhp 1.8ts were different and had a different / smaller turbo - and do not map the same.

This is correct.

Knocking from front wheel can usually be traced to a worn anti roll bar drop link, these wear pretty quick, but are cheap(ish) to buy and quick and easy to change
