Octavia TDI Cambelt Change - how to?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Does anyone have any information on how to change the cam belt on my 2001 Octavia TDI (90bhp). Are there any particular gotcha's I need to be aware of?

Thanks

You can find instructions in the Haynes Manual for the Octavia. The job is rated as difficult, ie suitable for an experienced DIY mechanic.

Theres a couple of specific tools you need to buy too. :)

please take it to a skoda garage, as they end up there anyway, after someones tried to do a belt. I should know.

I was going have a try to do mine in a few thousand miles time :-)

Of copier paper!? What happened to magazines keeping archive copies?

I would take it to your local skoda/vw dealer or specialist as when the older tdi engine belt needs replacing a process called dynamic timing should be carried out after replacement .This makes sure the pump timing is 100% correct .Not many people do this as a result of performance lose. You need as far as i know vas5051 or other older vw diagnosis equipment to carry this out. hope this helps!
