Octane Boosters? any good or avoid?

Featured Replies

One of the guys on our esprit forum is professor of chemistry at Oxford. He had some students carry out a test on these boosters (in the interests of science obviously!!).

They came to the conclusion that they are all pants and not worth the money.

He actually brews his own!!!

Wouldn't waste the money on them imo.

Cheers

unless you can advance your ignition timing to take advantage of the more stable fuel then don't bother as it won't do any good at all.

As Ben says, unless your car is designed to run on the higher octane mix, you'll just be chucking money away. Quite common in the Jap import scene where the cars are expecting 100 RON Japanese fuel and are used to "top up" 97/98/99 RON UK fuel....

If you want more power you could always get a turbo ;)

don't bother with them as said they're as much use as putting your rear seats down to reduce the weight in the car! unfortunatly the easiest performance upgrade is a simple remap, or CAI

Some of them do work, but unless the engine originally needed, or is re-tuned to run, on higher octane (or has a knock sensor) you'll get a better improvement in acceleration and economy by throwing the bottle away than by carring it about in the boot or fuel tank!
