Been to see the dealer and it looks like the oil coolant. Will be keeping the car and I got GAP and a free service thrown in.

make sure they do a proper job of cleaning out all the crud , as i said in one of my previous posts , hoses will require renewal and everything requires flushing until there is no oil left in the cooling system

They have cleaned out of the pipes etc etc but in new pipes the lot.

I have got the car back today and it was the head gasket which had gone.

Did they have any idea why it might have gone?

Chris

Glad about that  - really hope they cleaned/replaced all pipes, in which case you're good to go :)

Good stuff you're sorted :D

Just had a look at the water coolant bottle. The bottom of the bottle has red liquid but it's black at the top. So top half black bottom half red?.

Did not say, how much would it have cost me.

if its still black at the top , they haven't got all the oil out of it , and it requires further flushing methinks

Mr Know It All

He has not told you that within seconds of getting his first car he crashed it into the neighbours wall.

yeh but i was aiming for him

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Gotta love sibling rivalry!

Chris

If it's got any black crud in, keep flushing, and flushing :(

Then replace the reservoir (again) - if it still comes back, there is another problem.

Really keep an eye on it - you dont want it to overheat like mine did...

Will be going on a short trip on the motorway tomorrow, is this safe to do???.

my brother went to work this morn at 4.30,half way to work the water temp light came on.he wasn't far from the dealers so he 's dropped the car off and posted a note in the letter box.

he's rather cheesed off with it all !!!

he's thinking of changing to an octavia 1.6 which is at the dealers.

Sounds similar to mine - wouldn't hold my breath there isnt something more serious wrong then, and again, oil/water heat exchanger is likely to be worth a check.

Mine had headgasket, head, camshaft, oil/water heat exchanger, pipes, bottle, radiator and a few other bits and bobs replaced when it went. Oh yeah, and the engine :P

But I doubt the engine's gone on yours as that would be very surprising 'this quickly'.

The car has done 40,000 miles and it is nearly 3 yrs old. Went to back to the dealer and they said give us one last chance to fix it if their can't fix it their will swap the car. Maybe for a brand new one. I was told all the pipes were flushed but dealers can't workout why oil is still leaking. The dealer will have the car for about a week to run extra checks on the car.

Got a 1.4 Roomster in Black:eek: for a courtesy car.

so they didn't change the oil cooler then , just the headgasket ?

The dealer got back in touch with me yesterday and he said a new Head Gasket will be fitted ( not sure what was wrong with the one they fitted 2 weeks ago, will find that out) and after that will take it for some a road test. I bought the car on the Friday 10th and only had the car 4 full days. Not yet even cleaned it yet:rolleyes: . Was looking to give it a good run this Bank Holiday:rolleyes: . Can not fault the dealer their are doing everything their can.

the thing is though , it probably isn't the headgasket

What could it be then, the oil coolant?.

Oil/water heat exchanger is another item that has been known to go wrong
