Featured Replies

Oil/water heat exchanger is another item that has been known to go wrong

something which i have mentioned in this thread

plus it could be the same problem WW_RS had , which was a cylinder block problem iirc

I sure hope not, that's more expensive :(

The oil/water exchanger is not cheap either, but if the head is gone that's a fair bit of money.

its got 2 years warrenty !!

Did they check the head and skim if needed or just put in a new gasket and hope for the best? If the latter, it will keep needing new gaskets at irregular intervals. Question is why it went first time.

Great to have that warranty isn't it!

I only know the dealer put in a new head gasket plus new parts 2 weeks ago and they were going to put another gasket today.

Went down to the dealers today to see if it was ready and they said only a tiny about of oil was going into the water coolant, car should be ready for Monday.

I am concerned that oil is still getting into the water coolant, would it been better to put in a new engine??.

If the car does not get fixed I can either swap the car for a car the same price or get a brand new fabia 1.2 2 ( the dealer said they will take a loss but keep me happy).

Had the car 21 days today but have actually owner driven it for four of these days:( .

I think the only thing you can do is wait untill you have the car back , drive it for a day or two then check for oil in the water. If its still there then I suggest you get rid of it , unless they are going to do a proper job next time and replace the cooler and all the hoses , which will probably still have a film of oil in them.

Seems like your dealer, whilst they are helpful co-operative etc and perhaps scratching their head on this one.

Why not give Skoda UK a call on Monday to see if they can 'help'. After all, if this is under warranty, they (Skoda UK) have an obligation to get it fixed.

Would it not just be best to stick a new engine in??

It would save all the hassle by putting in a new engine, how much would a new engine cost???.

new engine = kerching

Not if it isn't the engine at fault, having read through the thread the oil/water heat exchanger seems the likely suspect, unless they are replacing the headgasket without skimming the head, which would just be plain stupid.

Isn't the cost issue irrelevant as the car is still under Warranty? It is though perhaps why your dealer is not getting to grips with the problem; they're trying the 'cheap' solutions first.

New engine though c.

Got the car back this afternoon but I have got to go back to the dealers next week to make sure the pipes are cleaned with a extra flush out.

Now I have got condensation in my drivers side headlamp:rolleyes: .

After they have flushed the pipes aagin, make sure you run it for a few days and then check the water again. Ask them if they have checked/replaced the oil/water heat exchanger, as this is a common VW fault.
