Looks cool for a van!

 - but I'd rather have a Transporter Sportline, if I HAD to have a van :D

Steve

One of my mates has a transporter sportliner, his is different to most though as it's 4 wheel drive and has a diesel V6 engine, according to the dealer it's either the only one, or one of very few with that spec, as it was only available to order for a few weeks when the sportliner was first released.

It bloody shifts too, when unladen it'll take almost anything off the lights!!

Transit looks better though, and will definately be more reliable!

The Vito 120CDi looks a fairly serious weapon too, anything with a 204bhp 3.0 V6 diesel should be fairly nippy  :D

Looks like the Transit's losing out in the power stakes!

And they look bloody minging!

If only I could afford the sportline :(

Not for long, A new 200bhp transit is due out in the near future, and you can spec it with RWD too!!!

the Transit reliable  , you are having a laugh , biggest pile of 5h1te Ford have ever produced , god knows how it has become van of the year twice , won both times i hasten to add before they have been driven by most of the companies that use them , just voted for by Journos who have no idea that a year down the road the engines fail, the fuel systems fail, the DMF/clutches fail , the front wheel bearings fail ,ETC , just glad i don't have to work on them :orb_phew:

sorry rant over :o

I agree with ric, they are VERY unreliable. I drive one every day and it has had a total engine replacement when only 4 months old (due to the timing belt not being tight enough and so causing major engine damage!!!). also a wheel bearing on the front gone, It's just come back from the dealers again after being there for approx 2.5 months awaiting an entire gearbox replacement - there are NO gearboxes in the country and apparently they had to be shipped over from Spain!! Also, one of the other Transits at work is still waiting for a new gearbox!!

Seriously, they do seem to be absolute bilge!!!

We have a fleet of 60 at work, no real problems on the Trannys to be fair. Just some people drive them like they are there to be knackered.

Best one we got though was no fluid in the engine or gearbox on delivery to us. Ooops. And another with no gearbox fluid in, oops.

I want one :D

i drive an 04 reg transit all day everyday and other than a couple dodgy coils its been perfectly fine :)

and its RWD John ;)

RWD transits have been available since day one but the normal cheapo ones are FWD :)

i take it , its a petrol then Bengie , that takes about 75% of the problems out of the equation

i think it does depend a great deal on how its driven , but it should of been capable of taking the abuse in the first place

it has a timing chain , but you are correct the tensioner fails , and even the modified ones fail ,

other Transit faults , cam carrier bolts come loose causing damage to head , oil coolers leak oil into coolant , gearbox bearing faults , rear diff faults , diesel filter head faults, injector faults , ABS wiring faults

I don't buy all the horror stories re Transit reliability. Sounds like the idiots driving them are more at fault to me. My workplace currently have three transit minibuses in action and we've had no problems. Our fleet always consists of three and we've had transits since I can remember.

What other colours did they produce them in???

I agree, In my previous job we ran hundreds of Transits and never had any trouble, then the boss decided to replace them all with Mercedes, big mistake, we ended up going back to transits again.

The simple fact is that Transits outnumber all other vans on the road by a massive margin, so your going to hear more about them, we could list through the faults suffered commonly by any manufacturer but it doesn't mean your going to experience it.

if it is about how you drive it then the key must be to thrash the living carp out of them as thast what i've done to mine along with most others on the fleet :D

and yes its a 2.3 petrol that we have with an LPG conversion "done by ford"(the van is built in one country then shipped to belgium to get an LPG conversion then shipped to the UK for sale, madness).

We have a VW Transporter TDI 130 DSG.. its a great van. Comfy, fairly quick for a van, but the 5 cylinder diesel lump sounds awesome when you put the DSG into sport mode and stress it a bit.

We also had a merc v220 previously, and the build quality on that was shocking it fell apart around you.

The engine in the older transits used to sound awful. Like someone left a spanner in the crankcase.
