Well the time has come the octy 130 tdi is due its first MOT in 2 weeks , has 63k miles , is there anything specific i should be considering at this point , whats the chance of them finding a major prob. All seems fine to me as most of the miles have been motorway driving . Any common faults likely to be found . Thanks

Brakes were the only things I really needed to get changed or advised to at 60k MOT.

Nothing really bar checking all you can do before the test, ie, horn, condition of wiper blades, lights etc.

Yeah don't forget to check the rear seatbelts all work I have had a car fail on one of these when the lap belt that had never been used had seized up. Just make sure that the usual are all working bulbs etc.

My Octy Mk1 VRS sailed through much to my (& the tester) surprise as it had been stood for 2 months so we though that it would fail the emissions, but it was bang on the money. So unless there is something major that you don't know about then I wouldn't worry about it.

I dread MOT time,not only because of the potential cost, but also the thought of some knuckle head revving the guts out of my pride and joy:mad:

To my mind this MOT 'emissions test' is utterly pointless and proves nothing.

For a start the engine may be cold,so the thought of revving a stone cold engine to the rev limiter is worrying to say the least,plus,at standstill, the engine is under no proper load,so what on earth does this idiotic so called test prove?

Also,I understand that the MOT tester is not liable should damage occur as a result of this 'test'........

Agree with you Nick H , why are they allowed to pornrially damage a car and then not be liable for what they do , will be making sure it has a good run and warmed up before also will caveate any disclamer by the gatage taht they do it under their risk not mine , bet they will not noyic eit on the form . I aklso think this part of the test proves nothing .

One trick I've found can make a difference is to put the car into the limiter a few times when it's hot and under load. This knocks loose any loose soot that might have affected that test.

Good News , had the MOT yesterday , local VW dealer to where i am working in Dunstable at present , and it Passed all OK . No recomendations at all , so well pleased .

Firstly chaps the car or should i say engine is tested at normal working temp; about 80 degrees..... if you have given the car a good run before the test it should sail through :rolleyes:

Only diesels that people potter about in tend to fail as there is so much soot build up, a sharp rev to the governer never does any harm:D The test normally involves 6 full throttle applications but if it meets the "fast pass" emmissions on the first throttle then that is it;)

All MOT stations should ask you about the condition of the engine/cambelt etc and once happy they will undertake the test, if history cannot be proven then they can refuse to test.... Once taken on it is the GARAGES responsibility to look after the car so any damage done during test should be put right

Phil, Never mind who's responsibility the engine damage is (and I can't remember being asked about the belt condition BTW). What, if anything, does this test actually prove beyond maybe that the engine gets an easy life?

That you are maintaining your car to manufactures recc; and you are also doing your bit for the environment:P
