Weird wipers

Featured Replies

My wipers have recently decided to do two movements when they get to the bottom of the screen. They stop, the immediately move down a bit producing an annoying sound!!!!

Any ideas why? and how can I fix it?

Mine seem to do this when I switch of the engine.

Its as if they are 'primed ready to wipe' and then 'parked' when the engine is switched off.

No particular funny noises though.

They also move upwards a fraction from time to time so the blade rests on the other side to prolong it's life

It's very good feature, not the fault. They move a bit from time to time to change the position of the blade. On other cars, when they are switched off, they always rest at the same position, so the blade is always bent the same way. On Octy, blades are bent one way and then the other way. It makes wipers last almost 80% longer then on other cars. Trust me, I live in south Portugal with almost 320 sunny days a year. I could never menage to make my wipers last more then 6 months. So I always had to have good pair and bad one. On sunny days the bad pair would be on and almost impossible to wash-wipe the windshield. When rain comes, the other pair would go on. It happened many times - me swapping my wipers on the rain. I have my Octy for 11 months now, still with pair of wipers from factory. They are still as new and wash-wipe perfectly.

Mine the same - I thought maybe time to change blades - getting a bit noisy on the wipe too, sort of rubbery squeak, except when big dose of screenwash just applied.

It's covered in the manual!! :P :D

Cheers for the responses. The noise has now stopped and I have noticed them changing resting position on a long run today. Was worried as I had the blades up off the windscreen washing the car and the neighbour asked me to move the car. I did and the wipers hit the bonnet . Thought I may have bust them.

Thanks again.

You can always rely on good responses in this forum

Nice feature the - when you move off return the wipers to parked.

It may be worth checking that your wipers haven't gone beyond the A pillar, mine had and were rubbing on the windscreen side of the A pillar - garage sorted them (moved them) and sorted out the damaged paint too (although not brilliantly).

If you don't know what I mean I'll try explain a bit differently.

Good if you don't leave them sticking up as I did!!

I didn't want to know that

I have to say the "service position" parking, and the way the blade just rotates and removes, is a terrific idea for both cleaning, and blade removal. I've never come across such a neat system. But, yes, you do have to remember to put them back on the screen!!

I sometimes put a VERY small touch of a light teflon grease on the b;ade pivot rod before replacing the blade. (No, I DON'T get it on the screen1!!)

Yeah; but it is a pain when you quickly want to lift the wipers off the screen to clean them 'cos to do it properly you have to go through the routine to 'park' them.

I know - but a lot of modern cars have the trailing edge of the bonnet stopping you just lifting the wipers. I like not having to raise the bonnet in order to work on the wipers!!

It also stops people nicking your nice shiny aero wipers as well :D

Wait, wait, wait...

Do you guys know any owner of new Octy in the world, complaining that somebody has stolen his wiper blades????

I guess not.

Try to remove the blades when they are in resting position...

You can't!

A friend of mine has a new Ford Focus with aero wipers, Imagine what, he's on his 4th set and car is only 9 months old. It has no the "feature" hiding blades under bonnet. Aero blades are pritty expensive. After had them stolen for 3 times in 9 months he decided to drive without them. He put the pieces of water hose on wiper's arms ends, not to scratch the windshield if wipers accidentaly turn on. As it's ilegal to drive without wipers in Portugal, he's testing his luck and waiting for police to pull him over. He saw the "feature" in my Octy and said he's so p... off, that if he just knew... He would go for Octy.

Conclusion:

I love it this way. Never thinking to get to my car and find no wipers.

I can't say it would ever occur to me to nick a car's wiper blades - even if I were a thief!!!

I know of 2 people (not on here) that have had aero wipers nicked. Both Vauxhalls too. Lift, turn, pull and your off.

Sad old world, isn't it!

It certainly is :(

They'll have the milk out of your tea :thumbdwn:

And if you do pop the bonnet it turns the wipers off.
