How to...MPG?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

How do i get to work out how many mpg my 2002 fabia TDi does?

Cheers

run the tank untill near empty, take note of the quantity of fuel you put in, reset the mile counter to zero, drive untill in empty state again and then do the maths using the quantity of fuel and the miles driven

This is generally a two step calclation. First note how many litres of fuel you've put in the tank and divide by 4.55 to get the number of gallons. Then divide the number of miles you've driven by your first answer.

Example:

40 litres added for 500 miles of driving

40/4.55= 8.791 gallons

500/8.791= 56.876mpg

Try using the brim-to-brim method:

Fill the tank to a point on the tanks filler pipe;

Reset trip meter;

Drive around as normal...until near empty;

Fill the tank to the same point on the tanks filler pipe;

Take the mileage off the trip meter;

Jot down/Get the litres filled off the garage receipt;

Divide the mileage by litres used - gives miles per litre;

Multiply by 4.546 with will give you miles per gallon (mpg).

I average 63mpg for the 34,000 miles I had my Fabia 1.9Tdi Elegence with a best for a tank of 72mpg :)
