Fabia 2002 AZF engine problems.

Featured Replies

hallo, my first post here, so i want to say hallo to all members.

I have a 2002 fabia, 1.4mpi with poor engin (AZF ), and i got some problems with it:

1. when engine runs on idle, it doesnt run smooth.(sparkplugs changed) still doesnt run smooth.

2. when temperature outside is betveen 22-30C, and when i try to start the car in 1st gear no mater how mutch i press the gas pedal , engine stops.

3.fuel consumation is high, around 13l/100km.

Anyone has some advices???

Thanks.

temp sensor perhaps , throwing too much fuel in because its still reading a cold engine

Mine doesn't run smooth either on idle I have just come to accept it now but I do wonder if that causes higher fuel consumption.

I had some massive judders the other day and since then it seems to have got better not great but no where near as jumpy which seems strange as i thought if anything it would have got worse.

yes but engine is cold, i havent started yet the car. just outside air temp is 23-30C.

any ideas??

Sounds more like a fuel problem than an ignition system one. If you still have the old spark plugs they can tell you whats wrong by the colour of the porcelin around the tip. Are they bright white or are they sooty / yellowy?

they are bright wite , like new... but i didnt knewd the history of the car so i changed them

To me it sounds like an inlet air temperature sensor the ECU seems to be getting incorrect signals and therefore fuelling incorrectly. If the plugs are very white without any carbon deposits then it is burning very lean. If they are very sooty and the porcelin very yellowy then it looks to be burning very rich and is over fuelling.

If the car wont start when it is hotter and the plugs were bright white without any deposits then it seems to me that the inlet air temp sensor is telling the ECU that it does not need much fuel which is incorrect. This would cause a lumpy idle and could cause a poor fuel economy like you have stated, if the sensor is giving out incorrect figures to the ECU. Get the inlet air temperature sensor checked out and see how it runs as it is quite an important sensor in determining how much fuel the engine needs.

ok, but on AZF pertol engin, it has MAF sensor? of you was talking about cooling liquid sensor?

I used to work for Ford and they used manifold absolute pressure sensors like the MAF sensor. These used to become faulty and cause similar syptons to yours. I would check this area first as it definately sounds to be fuel system related. The only area I would check on the ignition system is to ensure you are getting a strong spark out of the coil pack, as you have already replaced the plugs this would be one other area to consider.

ok, its the MAP sensor?? its located in the intake galery? I can take the vag-com and give it a read of sensors readings, would it help you if i send you the readings, when the cars engine is cold??

Ok and it makes another problem, it might be related to this one, when im in 1st gear and i take off foot of acceleration pedal, engine will stop, it doesnt compensate the acceleration to kep it running. This problem it was solved by cleaning the intake galery, but after a few weeks it started again.

It should have a manifold pressure sensor and an inlet temperature sensor somewhere in the system. If the stalling problem was sorted by cleaning the intake, the pressure sensors are usually effected by oil deposits getting in them. Is there a lot of oil deposits in the intake on your engine? Obtaining the ECU fault codes should help if you know someone who can decipher them. They wont mean much to me as I work on cars the old way. The only diagnostics systems I am fully manufacturer trained in are Peugeot, Ford and Vauxhall.

well, when i cleaned the intake, i cleaned MAP sensor to, and there is no engine fault code stored in memory. But something isnt working well? And i know on diesel engines there is a MAF sensor after the air filter , but on petrol engine there is no MAF sensor between air filter and intake gallery

The MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor is a pressure sensor used on petrol engines and the mass air flow sensor is used on diesels and some petrols. They both perform a similar function in that they are metering devices to tell the ECU what quantity of air is being drawn into the engine and how fast. On your petrol there will be an intake air temperature sensor and if it does not have a MAF sensor then there will be a MAP sensor instead somewhere in the system. It may well be attached to the inlet manifold somewhere or I have even seen some manufacturers put then elsewhere in the engine bay and connect it to the inlet manifold with a length of rubber hose. Either the temp sensor or the MAP sensor could quite possibly be the cause of the faults you are reporting. They are probably the cheaper option to start on before you go digging further by checking whether ECU's are faulty or other componentry is at fault. In my motor trade experience it is usually a very simple sensor like these that is at fault with running problems like you have indicated.

Ok, i chacked MAP sensor again, clean it, then i cleaned again intake galery, put injector cleaning aditive in fuel.... and still not working, engine stops while outside temperature is over 22C and engine is fresh started.

On diagnose apears no fault code

any ideeas??

As mentioned earlier my money is on a coolant temp sensor.

I'd also do basic settings on the throttle body.

ok thanks, but what do you mean by: "I'd also do basic settings on the throttle body."
