Felicia wobbly gearstick/linkages + remote locking

Featured Replies

My first post, ill try to be as descriptive as possible... I have 2 questions

After having a wobbly gear stick since I bought my 98 felicia I've decided to make the effort to fix it.

After looking at the gearstick end and eliminating the wobble there (I love elephant tape :D ) It was still wobbling so I found the problem at the gearbox end of the shaft, specifically its this bit (thanks to whoever uploaded this btw)

Now my...whatever you call it, hasnt got a nut and bolt, it just seems to have a small hole. So my question is, how do I get it off so I can sort the bushings out because im 99.99% certain its them, if not it needs a washer but I still need to take it off for that

Ok second one is a bit more simple. My remote central locking again never worked when I had the car, but the normal central locking does. As a complete newbie to cars, does anyone know how I can sort out the remote locking? Ive tried new batteries btw, the lights flash on the fob when the buttons pressed but nothing happens.

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance

Matt

I may have an answer to the remote locking query.

My remote locking didnt work on my car when i got it... but knowing the fact that the alarm had been removed i assumed it was that.

Until one day while cleaning the car i lifted up the gearstick gaitor and noticed a small button fastened to the stick so i thought id press it and see what happeded... nothing...

So when i went to start the car... it wouldnt it just turnede over... after several minutes under the bonnet i tried again and noticed that the light on the dashboard was flashing... something that it had never dont previously...

So i ran upstairs and grabbed the remote fob and then pressed the button and hey presto the doors locked... pressed it again and unlocked then it started fine.

Maybe theres a button in the same place on yours???

In response to your query about the gearstick - and the hole underneath - I would have thought it would need a nut and bolt to fix (Im not 100% certain). I expect it should look the same as the picture you attached.

The joint between the linkage and the gearbox selector shaft (shown towards the bottom of your picture, and likely to be under the hose clip thingy) is made with a sprung steel split pin that goes between the outer part of the linkage and through a hole in the shaft. These wear over time, and leave the shift feeling all wobbly.

You can remove the split pin and replace with a nut and bolt, which should improve things. It is however the devil's own job to remove the sprung pin. I drilled mine out using a very good drill bit, and then countersunk the outside of the linkage and replaced the pin with a countersunk hex head bolt of the right diameter.

James

i took the pin out of mine easy peasy. you just need to get the right size pin-punch. or any bit of round bar the same sort of size (but never bigger)
