Octy 4x4 Spec - what to order?

Featured Replies

After much thought I have decided to replace my Touran (140bhp diesel) with an Octavia 4x4 140bhp diesel. I have decided to include M/F steering wheel inc Maxi dot, silver met paint, curtain airbags, cruise and dealer fit detachable towbar. What about (a) Xenon headlights and (B) Light Assistant? I've seen a few negative comments about the Xenons on here but also criticism of the standard halogens!

Advice much appreciated.

(BTW the nearest VW 4x4 estate is the Passat Sport at

If I were you, I'd opt for the factory fitted tow bar... Saves the dealer taking a new car to bits !

definatly go for the xenons, they do make a hell of alot of difference compaired to halogens. Light assist and rain senors are an exclant idea, and adds to the driving experiance. i'd go for them both.

I would go for the zenons - many of the criticisms I have seen are just characteristics that you need to get used to - such as the dynamic levelling and the hard cutoff between lit and unlit areas. These are needed to stop dazzling oncoming traffic.

The first time I travelled on an unlit motorway they were sensational! Lit all three lanes brilliantly, and very kind on the eyes I thought. They are very bright, with a smooth distribution of light.

I'm less keen on the light assistant. On the plus side, there is a bit of a wow factor when the car switches on and off of its own accord. It's also cheap and easily overridden, but I don't like the lights coming on automatically at speed and under dark bridges.

I would get both if in doubt.

p.s. I'm not totally convinced about the M/F steering - it only adjusts the audio - NOT the cruise control and maxidot which are on a stalks. The buttons don't really fall to hand, although they look good.

I have a M/F wheel and don't think I could live without it, the only buttons I use on the HU are to switch between CD & Radio. Mute button on the wheel is a god send as I can mute the radio and take the call (as my phone auto answers) without letting go of the wheel.

I've had a 1.9 tdi 4x4 estate for 15 months, with zenons and a light assistant. The zenons are great, and I've had no problems with them at all, but I don't use the light assistant, and would agree with the previous comments. No M/F wheel either.

I am VERY satisfied with this car, and plan to keep it for as long as it runs. It does everything I want it to, sticks to the road like glue in all weathers and conditions, feels VERY safe, can carry loads, and goes like a train when required. Who could ask for anything more?

Thanks all! I think I'll go for the Xenons and not the Light Assist, (even tho'it's only

If budget permits I would go for the Scout - the alloys are very nice and chunky, although the tyres are pricey.

You get most of the options already thrown in - at a price of course.

help me here! How do I get a factory fitted tow bar? It does not appear on the options list in the brochure! But I agree, it would save the dealer taking the car to bits and charging a fortune for the the privilege
All I did was to ask my dealer to specify one when they ordered the car - QED :D

Looking at this post - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/technical-guides/skoda-option-codes-decoder/57034/2/#post958887 - it's listed as code 1D2....

Well we've got 16" Appllon wheels on our 4x4 and the decoded option codes note 16" wheels and tyres so it must be possible!

Also in relation to multi function wheel and maxidot we have that and I'm still getting used to it. It is nice not to have to use the headunit but the buttons on the wheel do seem to be slightly strangely placed, although the mute button is a godsend with a 3 yr old in the back who wants to chat quietly!
