Octy vRS - fast idle speed

Featured Replies

My car idles at 1800 to 2000 rpm even when warm. I've tried adjusting the speed using VAG-COM by playing with the Engine Adaption value - between 124 and 128 - but this didn't make much difference , so now its back to the original value of 128.

Note:- The engine is only just back in the car after a 2 year lay up - so I have no idea what the idle speed was before this.

When I scan the modules the only error codes I get are:

17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

P1297 - 35-00 - -

Readiness: 0110 1101

(I've read the thread on the cause of this)

and

00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266)

29-00 - Short to Ground

I've though about trying to reset the Throttle Body Allignment - but before I do I thought I check with you guys for any other pointers

Help!!!

IIRC once me Octy is warmed up it idles round about 800rpm...........(bog standard). idles near 1200 when cold.

I'm sure this will be confirmed or otherwise by some clever so and so......

Gilly

Have you cleared the codes, and have they come back again.

Yep - Cleared the codes , took the car out for a spin and they are back.

I can't see these two having an effect on the idle spped though.

Have you done a throttle body alignment yet, Steve? I can't see why it would do any harm to do so.

Denis - I havn't done it yet , I'll give it a go tonight.

TBA now done - no difference - still idles at 2000 rpm.

I did notice that when I brake to a halt and keep my foot on the brake the revs stay at 1500 rpm. As soon as I remove foot from brake revs rise to 2000 rpms.

Has anyone any idea's what is causing this?

perhaps you need to sort the last 2 codes, I dont know how important they are to the ecu. perhaps you are in some kind of limp home mode.

Finally got this problem solved - seems obvious now, the sensor on the accelerator pedel was out of line , making the car think the accelerator was press down , when it wasn't.

This could have happened during the accident.

With all the other fault codes on the cars I had to eliminate them before the real culprit could be identified.

Now the good bit - my dealer swapped the accelerator pedel for me under warranty
