is this a clutch problem

Featured Replies

hi all!

went out to car and tried to start a few mins ago and found that it wouldnt run initially. turned over really well . eventually got going but with intermittent splutters but kept dying. left it went back out and tried again and it ran reasonably well out of gear. when i depressed clutch and put in gear it kept grinding quietly on drivers side of engine at low revs . any ideas???

If you rev it a bit in gear, with the clutch full down, does it feel like the engine is trying to pull the car?

If so, then I suspect the clutch isn't clearing fully.

If not, maybe the MAP sensor?

thanks for the reply, i don't think its noticeably trying to pull away when revved. I'm not that technically gifted I'm afraid...whats the map sensor.

Mass Air Pressure sensor - it's a sensor in the air intake that tells the engine how much air its moving, and adjusts the fuelling to suit.

To test it, just disconnect it, and see if the problem improves (or at least doesn't get worse). It's probably the only electrical connection on the trunking between the air cleaner and the intake plenum. If that makes no sense, you'll need help from someone rather closer than I am!
