Which SAT NAV for M1 Octy VRS

Featured Replies

Hi , I have seen many thread regarding SAT NAV MFD units.

I have seen this unit on Ebay.

VW MFD Sat Nav GPS Polo Passat Sharan GREEN Ilumination on eBay GPS Devices, Navigation GPS, In-Car Entertainment GPS, Cars, Parts Vehicles (item 250156602553 end time 30-Aug-07 11:30:43 BST)

Is this a good unit to go for.

I keep seeing version D and G discussed and as this is a version A/B what are the differences.

Will this work in my car.

Can I get updated Maps.

Will I need Plug and Play.

Is there a install Guide available

Appreciate any feedback

Haven't seen that before (VW unit with green lights), but I am happily running a VW MFD "G" in my Mk1 Octy vRS.

Hello Bowders

I also have a vw mfd version G which seems to be working quite well, from what i understand versions D & G are the ones to go for(as posted above) However the official Skoda ones are actually models A & B respectively but are quite hard to find,so a lot of people go for the vw one which has red illumination and obviously a different badge.

The version you are looking at is older and does not possess DX capabilities(enhanced street names, points of interest, part post code etc)(see vwnavi.com for a fuller explanation)

Yes you will need a plug and play cable

The install guide that helped me was kindly furnished by Vrstu

Cheers Guys,

I guess that is why the price is slightly cheaper than the other versions. As I understand it the Skoda Version A and B is equivalant to VW Version D and G. Maybe the Maps are older in the VW version A and B and I wonder if I can get updated Maps for it??

What is Maxidot by the way.

I will check out the other sites you have recomended.

As far as i know the maps used in D & G systems are DX enabled so you will not be able to get current,ie 2007/2008 discs for A & B units(non DX)(excluding official Skoda ones)

Maxidot is a small display between the speedo and rev counter which displays the nav directions etc and was only fitted on certain mk1 octavias as an option.

The current 2007/2008 Teleatlas/Blaupunkt DX disc which works with models D & G is

Make sure you get the so called plug and play lead as well. Many, but not all, come with it included.
