Couple of questions

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Finally managed to upgrade to a "Y-Reg" TDI elegance &; apart 2 problems it's a great car; they forgot to put the owner's manual in the car after valetting it:

1. The speedo isn't working, at the end of the 200 mile trip back from picking it up. I've searched the threads & found that there are codes you can enter into the climate control (shown as 16 & 17 followed by 03) but these show nothing, even when the car is moving a short distance. Are these the correct codes?

I've also heard on this one that removing fuse 15 can fix this problem but, after searching in all the usual places, I can't seem to locate the fuse box. Can anyone tell me where it is?

2. Can anyone tell me which fuse is the one for the 12V cigarette lighter, as I could use my Sat Nav as a stand in for the speedometer, but this is not putting out any power at the moment.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

These instructions are for a 2000 Octavia:

The fuses are located right of the driving lights switch, open the door and the cover is on the end, it has an arrow embossed in the moulding.

Fuse 15 : Instrument cluster and auto box. 5amp

Fuse 41 : Cigarette Lighter. 15 amp

Found it. turns out fuse 7 had blown & 41 had been removed to replace fuse 35. Replaced them & hey, presto, speedo, fuel guage, trip computer & lighter socket are alll working now.

Otherwise the car is in great condition, giving us over 55 mpg & accelerating nicely, with no turbo lag noticeable.

Thanks a million.

Other point to note is that you've a button on the door armrest which disables the rear electric windows, and also disables the cigarette lighter.

You could order a replacement manual from a dealer.
