Center Vent Removal

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I am looking for some advice on replacing the center vent in the dashboard, I have managed to pop the vent out, but I'm not sure how to disconnect the hazard warning light switch, as there is not much room to get to it, do you just pull on the connector ? as I dont want to damage it. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Its very awkward, I used a long small flat head, theres a tab on in which needs to be pushed in. Get a touch and shine it in and you'll see what I mean. If not let me know...I think I have some pics at home.

Why would you want to remove that?

Many reasons...........

when fitting an MFD2 it's necessary to remove this.

Maybe a handsfree kit?

Maybe a vent slat is broken?

Maybe another part of the assembly is knackered?

Or maybe a stupid rattle coming from that area like some have reported

Replacing vent because my son broke two slats trying to fit his tom-tom into it (he's paid for a new one )

Do I get a prize for guessing?

I broke the slats on my Mk1 doing a similar thing

Did a nice repair with a tiny drill bit and a pin :D

The easiest way to disconnect the hazard switch is to pop it forward out of the centre vent/top box assembly (when the top box thing is removed from the dash).

You can then twist the switch round 180 degrees to access the little clip to release plug from socket.

Then pop the hazard switch back into place.

When you come to refit the plug into the back of the switch it doesn't matter that the clip is inaccessable as it only needs pressing to release (not to re-attach)
