what to check before end of warranty ?

Featured Replies

Owning one of the first 4*4 Combi's , my warranty is about to expire after 3 years .

This coincides with a 50,000 mile service . What should I ask the garage to check , in addition to this service , that might be faulty but undetected ?

I seem to remember that there were some plastic impeller blades somewhere that often broke but were undetected ( I am mechanically dyslexic ) ..........

Is it a good idea to change the gear box oil at this stage ?

I was going to leave the camshaft belt / water pump until 60-70,000 .

Steve,

Take advice from the garage, assuming it's a main dealer you use, they get paid for warranty work so just tell them to look for anything they can claim for ;)

I reckon they'd be happy to oblige :)

I'll be saying the same thing in a couple of months. MOT, end of AA cover it all happens at the same time.

Early water-pumps suffered from failure of the plastic impeller blades. I believe that later ones have metal impeller blades. I would stick with whatever the service schedule calls for at the 50,000 mile service (presumably on fixed servicing?) and have the camshaft belt changed at 60,000 miles (ie at half the specified change interval). Have your coil packs been replaced?

Clutch master cylinder !!

Which reminds me, must call the dealer...

For me, I just sort of tried to get myself knowing about as much of my car as possible - especially easier with a wrecked Fabia hanging around.

Apart from that, keeping my optimism high about the reliablity of the car, and the fact I DON'T :D need to go to a dealer to get problems fixed. yay, I'm in the "will take cash" garage repair period of ownership.

Thanks Manny , we bought new cars at the same time - had forgotten about MOT's !!!

Clutch master cylinder !!
How silly of me to forget that, especially as I have just had mine replaced. Symptoms of a faulty one are the clutch pedal sticking down in cold weather.

Steve

I suppose that checking that the 4x4 system is working 100% while it's in warranty - I know you had some sensor problems etc.

Steve,

Book the car in for a MOT a couple of weeks before the expiry date so if there's anything wrong you can get it fixed under the warranty. Take your V5 (log book) with you and they will post date the MOT certificate from the 3 year old date.

A good tip, Andrew! :)
