Jackin Point

Featured Replies

Not really Skoda related but I need some help.

My g/f tyre burst this morning about half a mile from home (so her breakdown cover doesn't kick in) and I need to put the spare on to get it to the garage for a new one but I have never changed a wheel.

I seem to get the basics loosen the bolts, jack it up take wheel off, tighten a little, release jack and tighten fully.

but I am not sure where the jacking point is as I believe this is very important, is it different for different makes? (it's a vauxhall vectra)

Cheers

check the manual...it will tell you in there :)

normally if you look under the car, you can see where it has to be jacked up, as there will be a plate of some description for the jack to lift the car up :)

Yep - it tends to be around 6 inches along the chassis from the wheel arch but if you stick your head under you'll see the cutout where the scissor jack slots in.... Manual will confirm :D

Is it a sill jack??? (groove in the top of the jack) if so you should be able to jack it up on the body join that sticks down!!!

Thanks for that

I have no idea what type of Jack she has I asked her about her spare tyre and she said she didn't think she had one. I am quite sure she has it's she has just never thought of looking under the boot cover.

Well the DIY job didn't go to well but all worked out well in the end.

She had parked it so close to the curb it was a pain to get the jack under plus it was a bit of a rubbish one.

So I went round to the tyre place I was going to take it to and for once they were really quiet so he jumped in the van came and put the spare on for me then went back to the garage for the new one and he only charged me for the tyre
