Insurance

I need some clarification before I discuss anything with my insurance company. What is the position regarding SDP, commuting and business class. I have been asked if I can use my car next week to take myself and a couple of colleagues to a training course for the week. If I were to do this would need business class insurance for this? This effectively means going picking these people up from work and us going to this course and coming back to work at the end of the day.

They pay around 40p/mile which i'm not overly enamored with as it'll be clocking up lots of miles.....any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you would need to tell your insurance company

Yep, commuting to work is just that and any travelling done during business hours (for business use?) requires the additional cover. Here we have to prove that this is in place each year.

Most insurers will not charge extra for this cover :D

I have done the same a few times, last monday being the latest. I got back 40p per mile, worked out nicely (

Worth checking your policy documentations, but this is what NU say on their site:

10. Do I need business use to drive to work? No, under our insurance policy you can drive your vehicle back and forth to the same place of work using social, domestic and commuting purposes. We can however increase your cover if you need to use your vehicle to visit any other sites of business during the working day; we will not however cover any goods or samples carried in connection with business use.

40p a mile's not too bad.

the Fabia does at least 10 miles per litre, so even if costs you

Yea. I suppose;)

It's the most you can get tax free per mile in a car up to 10k per year. I suppose that's what you get working for an accountants! The irritating thing will be clocking up a fair bit of mileage on the SE that I pick up on Saturday. Having said that, it will be brilliant to be in a car of my own again!

You'll probably find this is the same amount as issuing a new Insurance Certificate, poxy insurance companies....

Yea, I think it's

Who are you insured with? Adrian Flux are the only "insurer" I've been with who've charged to issue a certificate with changed details on it. All the others just say they're popping the new one in the post.

Chris

I'm with Admiral and they charge

I will be getting work to pay it next time round on top of the 40p per mile.

To be safe.
