Driver's door glass, won't go up

Featured Replies

Hi.

A month or so ago I replaced the driver's door-glass regulator. I wound the window down on Saturday and when I tried to get it up again it made a whirring noise like a ratchet! To get the window up I had to operate the switch and push the glass up with my other hand.

Has anyone had this problem? It sounds like the gear is not meshing properly. Or is the gear on the motor splined onto the drive shaft and the splines have stripped?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Cheers.

Hi.

I have a confession to make!

When I replaced the regulator I thought it strange that two of the fixing holes had been filled with a plastic rivet. I assumed that it must have been a design change, but not a very clever one.

It is not a design change, they are there to hold everything together. I should have taken the rivets out (which I have done now).

I've reassembled the motor using three fixings and the window works as it should. With just the one fixing, the gears were coming out of mesh.
