thanks, I can see the sensor, what I was meaning does the mirror tilt automatically?

Oh and the Christmas stuff is out in Morrisons already !

No it turns the rear view mirror and wing mirrors dark green.

It uses LCD to make the glass less reflective. It has a sensor facing backwards to calculate how dark the glass should be and looks at the daylight sensor to see how light it is outside, it also goes off in reverse. Also known as electrochromatic.

The new L&K does NOT have auto dimming door mirrors, the only one to have that is the pre 2007 L&K models.

Same goes for the Elegance, interior mirror dims only.

Thanks for the info, so it turns the wing mirrors dark green as well, I have never noticed the wing mirrors changing colour, are they not as pronounced as the interior mirror?

not quite but you do notice

do the wing mirrors use LCD as well? could imagine the glass would be more expensive if ever broken.

Not the latest model L&K (Feb 2007 onwards) no they have blue tinted glass instead.

Ever seen older BMW's and Mercs with dodgy coloured door mirros, they are auto dimming units that have aged badly and no longer work properly.

Additionally, the latest mirrors use a gel instead of an LCD based system, more responsive and more reliable.

dont know bought that, i notice yours is that rank beige colour like mine. I find it really hard to get a deep gloss finish bought you?

I have only had the car two weeks, not washed it yet or done anything with it. I am pleased with the colour, even though it is dirty, it still looks clean. When the car was clean, and had been valeted, the car looked very glossy. Perhaps you have a paint problem, did you buy new? has it been resprayed?

yeh bought new, but I mean compared to black. Maybe its just me.

Have you waxed the car to protect the paint yet?

I'd advise having a nose around in the car care section for some tips in that department.

I've had my car for 5 weeks and 5000 miles and it's still as good as the day it was dropped off (better in fact as it arrived dirty:mad:)

Best stuff for the beige Octy is Clearcote Vanilla Moose wax followed by Victoria Yellow Collector's wax.

Megs stuff is highly rated, I'm going down the swissvax route, i'm using Collinite 915 at the moment which is damned good IMO.

I heard rumours of this "summer" nonsense but I think it's just that - a rumour!

Can you force the mirror to dim manually, I am find it quite annoying when you get some fool (****) with badly set lights blinding you while you wait for the mirror to darken, TBH I'm not convinved it's an improvement on the old manual system that worked for VAG fine for 20+ years.

Just press the button. Works perfectly on mine when I don't have the rear sublind up.

Button is pressed but there's a few seconds delay between a bright source coming in and the mirror actually dimming.

The mirror is fairly slow to dim when exposed to a rear light source. The mirror used in the Octavia is carried over from the old A4/B5 cars as the new Passat, Golf etc use a different more rectangular auto dimming mirror, I would imagine it performs a little better than the older ones.

The privacy glass does a pretty good job of eliminating a lot of the dazzle from the cars behind.

Here is a tip. I tend to always leave mine on if I don't have the sunblind up and even in bright sunshine it works if there is glare coming off cars behind.

Honestly, I find it does the job very well, but yes, it does take a few seconds at night to dim.

Maybe your rear middle headrest is a little high, so the sensor doesn't pick up the light as quickly ;)

I have the opposite problem with my auto dimmer - it stays dimmed almost the whole time at night.

Does anybody know if it is possible to adjust the sensitivity?

Failing that, is there any way to undim manually - if I turn the auto sensor off it stays dimmed.

Thanks for any help.
