Octavia 1.6 engines vs Felicia 1.6s

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the mechanical differences between the 1.6 in the mk1 Octavia to the 1.6 in the Felicia?

The 1.6 version in the mk1 Octavia has 100bhp so I was wandering, would it be possible to either do an engine swap or if the engines are similar design to swap the internals over into the felicia 1.6?

pass.

but would love to know, may be its all in the ECU?????? du-no

I wouldnt have thought the ecu alone would be responible for a 25bhp hike in power, maybe ECU, injection system, manifold and possibly cam though surely?

Im going to view a Felicia this weekend, an SLXi on a 99/T plate so hopefully will get start joining you guys modifying these beauties.

Cheers,

Al

The very first few 1.6 Octavias - R / S / T / V reg Octavias had Felicia engines, absolutley identical - I know because I nearly bought one - and thought hang on a minute I m not gaining anything! Thats the 75bhp version.

They then did a 101bhp version, which I think is a newer VW engine, which has the dipstick at the front, and I think it is taken from Golf / Polo directly. If you are changing to an Octavia - and want to gain from a 1.6 I think the only way is straight to a 1.8 - which is what I am considering.

the 100bhp 1.6 engine is totally different, larger bores, shorter stroke, bigger valves etc etc.... it's very similar to the late 2.0 crossflow engines expect it has a plastic intake manifold....

and before you ask.... no it wont go in easily into a felicia

Thought that might be the case, im just looking at something similar which I can drop in instead of the puny AEE. There must be a very similar VW/Audi powerplant I can swap to start off with some more power.

Is it possible to use 16v head or bigger/better flowed 8v head on the AEE?

What about the 100bhp 1400 16v they fit in the Fabias?

What about the 2.0 Golf GTI engine, as found in the mighty Fabia 2.0!

...We have been down this avenue before sadly Tom. There doesnt appear to be a VW engine so far which will be an easy ish fit (drop in conversion)

Is it possible to use 16v head or bigger/better flowed 8v head on the AEE?

the old 16v polo (afh) head will fit the aee block, but that leads to engine mounting troubles, one of the bolt holes where the engine mounting bracket goes on the 8v unit has an extra timing belt idler in there on the 16v unit... it's not impossible to do, but it would require a little fidding about

Ahh, might be worth looking into.

What about the mk1 golf gti and cabby's 1600/1800 sohc 8v which makes 110bhp? surely that would mate up to the felicias box ok and engine mounting/dimentions would be near same?

no the mk1 golf 1600 enigine is fairly similar to the 100bhp 1.6.... it's also nearly indentical to the 1.8 engine too...

it would indeed be possible to fit this up to a felicia diesel gearbox (with the bellhouse adaptor plate) but you would still need to fiddling with the right hand engine mounting..

afaik there are no other engines which are a straight drop in.

he's right. the only engines that will drop in are the ones skoda intended to go in.

bit i do like the 16v head idea??????????????????

What about supercharged 1.3 (G40) engine?

The Mk1 octavia had two 1.6 Litre engines.

The Lx had a 55 KW engine which I think was used in the Fabia and Falicia.

The Glxi had a 74/75 Kw engine. This is the same as the Golf engine.

I hope this clarifies things.

Regards;

humm 16 valves would be nice,

better throttle response

better fuel consumption

more power

better emissions

more torque

higher top speed

better accelleration.

I say lets fit that 16V head!!!!1

I dont think Fabias had 1.6s, the only petrol engines fitted in Fabia 1s were 1.2HTPs, 1.4MPi(skoda) 1.4 16v(VW) and 2.0(VW) engines.

What about supercharged 1.3 (G40) engine?

funny you should say that cuz the 1.6 is realy a polo 1.4 just bored out. so the 1.6 is a G40 lump. get some better rods and rings, slap a G-ladder on and hay presto,,,,,,, a 1.6 G40 felicia.

...You could be onto something there pinkskud! But wouldnt you have to run low comp pistons to accommodate the forced induction? The G60 has a C/R of 8:1 and the stock Felicia 1.6 is 10:1 - too high.

Ive read about a few Felicia 1.6 turbo conversions in the Czech rep but I think it wouldnt be as cost effective as a G-ladder.

If supercharging the 1.6 is possible the power gains will be modestly impressive: 120bhp maybe possible given that the 1.3 G40 produced 115bhp and the 1.8 G60 made 160bhp.

righty.. i'll dispell a myth before we all get carried away

the 1.4 and 1.6 engines both have exactly the same engine block... with the same bore size...

the g40 block is based on the early 1300cc GT polo and it would be a real **** of a job to fit it to a felicia again because of mounting difficulties

it is however possible to fit the g40 supercharger to the 1600 (aee) engine if you make the necessary modifications to the drive belts/tensioners.. problem is finding one.... rare old beasties nowadays... and to be fair, the g lader units aren't the most reliable things in the world.... imho if you have your heart set on going down the forced induction route then go for a turbo... and it would be cheaper

...What about using an Eaton M45 from a cooper S? They can be picked up for peanuts off ebay.

A friend of mine got an M45 for £95 off ebay, spent £100 to the company that fabricated his design for the mounts, and hes using the aircon pully but removed all aircon kit from engine bay. Plumbed it all into his Fiat Marea then bought a uni chip and front mount intercooler.

He says the good thing about them is they need no oil feeds and are the cheapest cahrgers to rebuild.

yeah those eaton m45 units are superb, and they are really reliable. and they are so cheap it's not worth rebulding them....

maybe i will look into fitting one of these to the 1.6 engine some time in the near future

ooooo spanking...

looks like a rotrex C30 charger to me ross

the centrifugal superchargers aren't as good as the roots (eaton) type because they stll have lag like turbos do, but i bet it is still a rapid little car with that on there :D

ohhhhhhh nice

Is there a place that can actually make a turbo fit the felly 1.6,

because I would have it done if somewhere actually can do it!

ok, you send me your engine and about £3000 and i'll do it for you....
