Windscreen

Featured Replies

I was driving alone a dual carrigeway in my vRS being followed by my friend in her civic, the traffic was busy but moving at quite a pace. A rigid body highway maintanence lorry came past me on the outside, and as it got infront a piece of tar, about the size of a large fist, flew off the top of its load area. It kicked up off the road and smashed off my windscreen, directly infront of me, quite a bang!

My questing is, i got the licence plate (I think) just before i pulled over to inspect if any of the other falling debris had damaged the front of my car. (There is no noticable damage thankfully). Is it possible that my windscreen is now weakend? and is there anyway I can trace the lorry from the licence plate or just as a highway maintanence lorry if i need to bring this to the drivers/operators attention?

Thanks in advance

Are there any chips or damage to the screen.

If you give the details to your insurer if you have to have work done on the screen they might well take it up with the third party.

Trouble is you would have to prove it was that what caused the damage, and not another event. For the small cost of your windscreen excess and to save hassle it may be easier to just claim.

Thank goodness for toughened glass! I had a similar experience years ago with an empty coke can on the A3 which destroyed the laminated windscreen of the Metro I was driving - 80mph in the fast lane, definitely a brown trouser moment.

Report it... Though you may have suffered no financial loss and your car is undamaged, this sort of thing is not supposed to happen. The next person may not be so fortunate.

Think of it as being part of the feedback loop into their quality process...
