Knocking from front of car HELP

Featured Replies

Hi

I am new to this forum and have just purchased a Yellow Octavis 1.8 VRS 53 Plate with 56,000mls on the clock . There is a knocking noise from the front of the car at low speeds going over potholes ect.. have had it put on a ramp and mechanic said everything was fine .Any ideas ?

ARB bushes or raditator mounts. Rad mounts are more of a squeek though I believe. Otherwise maybe a small child caught in the wheel arche and is trying to get out?!

Defo a knock and not a squeak . Cant recall running over any small childeren:eek:

Probably ARB bushes. If it's been like that a while, the ARB itself may have got worn (as mine did) and you might need a new ARB.

I too have a knocking from front (again!!!) had new arb and bushes about a month ago so can't be that any ideas?

Could be a number of things?

Arb bushes

Top mounts

Ball joints

Steering rack

If you are stationary and turn the wheel do you still get the noise?

No noise on my car when its stationery and i turn the wheel . Had it up on a ramp and the mechanic said if it was the bushes he would know .

I would say the anti roll bar drop links for certain, they only last about a year

Could the knocking be the plastic tray behind the front bumper ? It seems to be loose and slightly mis-shapen .

Been advised by Garage that the drop links need replaced .

The car had to go back to the garage today .The Knocking going over bump/holes in the road was back plus a terrible knocking sound when turning the steering wheel either way even when the car was stationary. Garage says the Strut joints need doing . Does this sound likley ? Would that make the noise on the steering even when stationary ?

Could be a bust spring. Mine does it on lock to lock, turned out to be the front o/s spring had snapped off a couple of inches where the top of the spring locates in the top of the strut.

I had a squeak from the rear left when cornering right at speed and also the ARB knock, had it serviced today, diagnosis was ARB bushes and a broken rear spring, both sorted and car is silent again!
