How to check auto dimming mirrors?

Featured Replies

Hi.

Just got my new Octy II and it is fitted with auto dimming mirror(s). The dealer isn't sure if the outside wing mirrors also dim, but the rear view mirror is definetely dimable. How can I check if they work? It's an Elegance with the plus package, but I know standard/optional features differ from country to country - there is no L&K version in Denmark for instance.

When I enable the dimming feature (green light on in the rear view mirror frame on), I can't make the mirror reflectibility change with a flash light. Do I need to do anything else? Outside light sensors, light switch settings etc.?

Is there some way to destinguish if the wing mirrors are the auto dimable type, or can I only see if they perform this action simultaneously with the inside mirror?

Cheers,

Steen

On my previous car (Citroen C5) it was easy to activate dimming of mirror by locking a light sensor on the back of the inner mirror - for example, by finger. Turn ON the ignition and try to close the light sensor - you will see how mirror (s) become dark

there is and easy way to check it the wing mirrors are also auto dimming. If the glass has a black plastic rim around the edge of it, then it as the dimming feature. If it does not and it just the glass, then it does not dim.

As said before, you can defeat the ambient light sensor by sticking your finger over the little recess on the back of the mirror. It's very sensitive so make sure it's well covered up.

Also make sure reverse is not engaged as it turns the dimming off, IIRC the auto dim doesnt work with the door open and interior lights on either.

The best way I find is to test it at night, and turn the interior light on! You should see the internal mirror dim, and if you have external dimming mirrors...they should be noticable as your internal one!

Thanks to you all - I have confirmed that my rear view mirror dims when it ought to, and that I do not have auto dimming wing mirrors.

I have also experienced the dimming feature in use yesterday evening, when a car behind was running mislevelled head lights - and it works beautifully! I wasn't annoyed by his lights, not even from the wing mirrors. But when I switched the dimming of the rear view mirror off I couldn't use that mirror anymore - his lights were too bright. So the bottom line is that this feature is really useful on the rear view mirror, but maybe not entirely necessary on the wing mirrors.

Cheers,

Steen

The tinted glass on the revised L&K do a pretty good job of reducing glare, It's a shame they aren't auto dimming but it's a fair trade off for ESP, Xenons and 17" alloys :D

So, if the revised L&K doesn't come with auto-dimming wing mirrors, how does one get that feature now - is it an optional extra?

No mention of it as an optional extra, if it was I would have ticked the box.

Saying that, there is no mention of heated seats for the vRS but SWMBO's has them:rolleyes:.

If you have the right order code I suppose it's possible unless Skoda have dropped them completely.
