Fabia 2001 1.9Sdi: Towbar Question

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking at fitting myself a Towbar to my Fabia Hatch 1.9 SDi and I was just interested in what towbars people have fitted to their Fabias?

1. I'm looking at installing a Witter: SK11A

2. On the Fabia, do you need a complete electrical isolation box for single electrics? I'm just concerned about the Brake light as it's via the brake pedal switch?

Just interested in your experiences?

Thanks.

Phil.

You can buy the electrics kit from Skoda which doesn't require any cutting or anything. Failing that many good resellers will offer a kit sold as suitable for the Fabia.

Would any of the performance mods such as PD160 intake and the 'ebay' type resistor tuning boxes work on an sdi to aid towing?

I recently had a PCT one fitted to my Estate with both 12S &12N electrics and was very pleased with the job, just a minor bumper cut that is not noticable. Took the fitter about 1 1/2 hours.

Do you have the part number of the towing electric kit?

Thanks.

Phil.

From the Skoda website -

12N Towing Kit

Part Number: ZGB6Y0055203A

Suitable For: Fabia Hatch or Estate

Information: To ISO standard DIN ISO 1724. This kit does not interface with rear parking aid systems and will not deactivate them where fitted.

Product Details: Single socket towing electrics kit. 12N / 7N

RRP: £55.00

When i bought my sdi, it had a tow bar on it, the light wiring was simply crimped off the existing light wiring.

Also bear in mind you will need to cut your bumper to fit the witter tow bar.

I would avoid ebay chips, only way to tune a sdi, is a remap, even then u will hardly notice a differnce

Cheers, I am aware that I need to remove and cut a few slots in the bumper. I got the fitting instruction off their website first just to see what was involved.

Remapping an SDi would be one of the largest wastes of money I've could think of ..... no no, a NOS kit, and a remap!!

Hi,

You can get a car specific kit from Towequipe, though look on the EU side of there site as it dosn't seem to be on the UK site? Towequipe - Direct sales of Full towbar kits and Mobile Fitting service in the Midlands

(Click on the little EU flag to go into the EU site)

I have towed a small caravan with an SDI and it was ok, you could still pull away without throttle on the level! And easily cruise at 60 in fifth. It put my MPG down to around 45 though.

Only way to get power out of an SDi is to turn it into a TDi

Noz: is the only way to fly.

That's a blow! Just contacted Towequipe and they tell me they do not stock the Fabia Car specific wiring any more! Say i'll have to get it from Skoda. Do I detect a bit of VAG pressure?

It's a shame as it was a lot cheaper but apparently the same (made by Westfalia)

In the end I bought my Towbar from here: Towbars direct

I ended up putting the wiring together myself. Spliced some bulleted tails onto the original wiring loom above the passenger side rear wheel arch (inside). Took an afternoons work, but all is well.

Phil.
