Octavia II "CD ERROR" & mirror switch

Featured Replies

Perhaps this advice will be of use to someone:

My wife recently drove our Octavia II. When handing me the keys back she explained that the radio wasn't working, made a constant ticking / clicking noise through the speakers and displayed "CD ERROR" on the screen (no CDs in head unit or changer). I checked this and confirmed the issue. No button pressing or fiddling resolved the clicking and error message.

Once booked in to the dealers for investigation my wife revealed that she had adjusted the door mirrors prior to the problem starting. So, back out to the car mirror switch rotated from '0' to 'heated' position, radio now works, no clicking or error message!

Not a techy but sounds like a fault on either mirror switch or electric motor in mirror

Could be coincidence, have you tried changing back to the setting '0' to see if it replicates the fault?

probably down to all this fancy canbus wiring system?

My guess is that it's a coincidence because I get Cd error on the radio/cd all the time (it's a bag of c**p - see previous posts - but it sounds good) even when i've not touched the mirror control.

Are you saying your radio/cd is rubbish, or all of them in general, I am quite happy with mine, nice to have a radio that doesn't vibrate the door trims etc.

I get "CD ERROR" periodically and it refuses to give back the CD in the head unit. No amount of persuasion will entice it, until a few days later when it suddenly decides all is well.

Think it's a fairly common problem - although I've not heard of it happening when there's no CD in the head unit before?

I did actually say it sounds good but IMHO any piece of equipment (which according to me and other Briskodians) has a common fault and on which I've posted before on other issues than this, can't be that great.

I get the CD error code all the time and there's nothing wrong with the CD itself as they play Ok on other stuff and eventually after much jiggery pokery and leaving it for a while, will play on the vRS unit.
