Engine swap

Featured Replies

i know this probably isnt possible, but just confirm it for me. Do any polo engines fit in the felicia, like a 'drop in'.. in the future i really want the 1.6 GTi engine in it but i know im 98% sure i can't just drop it in. : /

...You can tune the 1.6 VW AEE to 140bhp with throttle bodies, aftermarket engine managment etc and alot of expense.

JBS tuning did a felicia fun with a 1.8Turbo conversion but theres alot of work involved, custom mounts, driveshafts etc and the bill alone would run into ££££s

Best thing to do is look into throttle bodies or forced induction.

hmm thanks, might wait a bit then save up some money.. i WILL DO IT!! :D ill tell yous lot when i have. i have all the manpower and help, but MY mechanical skills suck so im either gonna have to win the lottery and pay people to do it, or take forvever, either way it will take forever :p

the only engines to drop in the felicia are ones skoda intended to put in. the felicia engine bay is nothing like anything on the road.

i'm looking into two options at the mow. one is the supercharger idea, and the other is the 16v head idea. both will require quite a lot of fabrication work

...Il be looking to go down the Eaton M45 route Pinkskud, as ive seen the conversion on a Fiat Marea and it is very effective.

I reckon the whole conversion can be done for £300 inclusive of the charger, mounts and ancilleries needed.

How about fueling etc?

How about fueling etc?

Would have to see whats needed. Maybe uprated fuel pump, dump valve, injectors, adjustable fuel pressure reg and piggyback ecu/rolling road tune.

yer, thats the bit i'm not to good at, all the ecu stuff

...Right, well, on the ecu side, my friend who has done his fiat hasnt changed anything to do with the engine internals, nothing is uprated, hes using stock ecu etc. All hes done is fit an intercooler, mount the charger, plumb all pipework in and the car runs fine on stock boost.

I know its in a fiat but it shows you can fit one and use one without uprating the internals and using the stock engine management.

He doesnt intend to keep it that way as hes also using nitrous, but it shows the supercharging route can be done and its more viable than turboing. As you dont have to spend alot on fabricating manifolds and supercharging will be somewhat more reliable, less heat produced and better spoolup/no lag issues etc.

...Maybe we are looking at engine conversions the wrong way, what about an oil burner? 1.9TD engine maybe to make a Felicia vRS?

We know the felicia engine bay can take a VW 1.9D engine...

now that would be good

the fabia vrs's motor s really torquey!

oh i wonder if that would work?

again, a lot of custom fab to be done there, the PD lumps are not small and your guna need custom shocks/springs to take the strain. the PD lumps were to heavy for the mk1 octty let alone a felly.

...Maybe not a PD lump, the 1.9TD they fitted in Ibizas will do

yeah me and my mate got talking, and the favorite for me is the supercharger. Like i said when i get the money for it, installation, insurance etc. :p

ALTHOUGH i do love diesel...*mmm*

possible yes... but would involve some custom fabrication of the engine mountings etc... the skoda garbox wont fit the gti engine because it has a different bellhousing so you would need to bring the gearbox too, which would need a hydraulic clutch system also... plus the driveshafts will be the wrong length so you would need custom ones

...The questions about engine swaps have been exhausted. I think we need a sticky on it. Seriously though Tom, what about the 1.9TDi unit from the Ibiza in a 1.9D felicia?

:o again, not impossible, but it's a lot of work..... would probably be easier just to go out and buy a ibiza and just drive about in that instead

...Sacriliage, I hate Seats, they have no pedigree and the people that drive them choose them over skodas because they couldnt possibly drive a Skoda, but they would rather drive a car with a stupid badge and horrible styling that has no rally or track pedigree (up until recently anyway)

Hmm, Seat Marbella? was that better than a Rapid or estelle, I think not, they couldnt even make thier own cars, just recycle fiats but end up making them inferior to the Fiat they were based on.

blimey is that possible.

blimey is that possible.

...Yep, what were the ladas of the 70s/80s = Recycled Fiats that were worse than the cars they were based on, same goes for seat, recycled Fiats.

So one would assume that a Golf VR6 lump wouldn't go either? I figure the answer will be no but I'm curious :)

Don't forget the FSO 125p, also based on the Fiat 124/125, as well as the Seat 124 there is also an Indian version which i think is still in production.

Oh yeah, bit like modern day Skodas being 100% Skoda.....

Skoda still design and build thier own cars though, they dont use thier own engine designs because they never developed anything new - due to economical constraints not because they didnt have the knowledge or expertise, just 40 years of communism holding them back.

...VR6 will go in but you need custom driveshafts, engine mounts etc etc, not a drop in conversion. Read the other threads, ive been down the route "what engine will fit?" and theres nothing that is a simple drop in conversion other than what skoda intended.
