its an mk1 mate.

Mk 1 facelift to be technical. :P

Easiest way to tell the difference (IMHO) is by the headlights. The Mk I and Mk I facelift have different shape headlamps, and the face lift has clear headlamp lenses whereas the pre face lift has older style headlamp lenses with ridges and that.

If you look at your chassis number on the dashboard tally it will have 1U in it which is the chassis descriptor for a MK1 car. Mk2 is 1Z.

Left: Pre facelift Mark 1 Octavia

Middle: Facelift Mark 1 Octavia (with optional xenons)

Right: Octavia Mark 2

IIRC the Classic/Ambiente/Elegance names were only used on the facelifted Mk1 Octavia.
