vRS tyre life

Featured Replies

Had a new set of front tyres fitted to my mk2 vRS today as they were down to the wear bars. The last set (the origional Bridgestones) lasted about 15000 miles.

What mileage have other people had out of the fronts? 15k seemed fairly low - I enjoy the odd 'spirited' drive :) but I'm no mad man...

Michelins this time (no choice as co. car) - will be interesting to see how long these last.

Cheers

You will find that a quick search of the forum will give you loads of threads about tyre mileage. I got 16k out of the standard Conti set, but was supprised that my rears wore at nearly the same rate as the fronts!?! I think 15 - 16K isn't bad, remember that the compound of these tyres is supposed to give loads of grip, so also plenty of wear! I've used Contis', & Bridgestone on my old Bora 150TDI ( similar size) and only got 12K out of the Bridgstone SO3 PP's !! Others seem to get good mileage out of Michelins Pilots and I've had some good reports of Verdestins

With the sort of mileage I do these days I have to budget on at least 2 sets a year excluding punctures!!

Have fitted Toyos this time and so far have done 12k with little sign of wear & much improved grip, if this keeps up I'll be going for the same next time!!

17K for me so far with plenty left :)

Hi,

i've had my Vrs tdi for just 6 months and nearly done 9k, after recently checking my front tyres i have noticed that they are quickly coming to the end of their life. i recon that i've got between 2-3k left before i'm a target for 3 points and a£60 fine from the boys in blue.

it's been fun all the way..

My lease company only fits Michelins as well, apparently they last longer. They dont. Have done 40k and had my third set of fronts fitted a a couple of thou ago. Each set lasted around 18-19k, probably because I do a lot of motorway miles.

Conti's on 18's. 8500 miles and looking well worn. I'll be surprised if I get another 2 to 3k. I wish I knew how you get 15 or 17k. :(

I swapped fronts & rears about 10k, now at 17k the rears are nearly gone and the front ain't got much more either. They are Dunlops

I did go through a set in 11K on my last company car (Passat 130 TDi) although I must admit I thrashed it

orignal set of dunlop sports lasted 19000 kilometers. 11 kil now on second set of dunlops and not long to go.

13,000 on average for fronts 26,000 for rears

I have done 43,000 so far and on 4th set of fronts, Yokahama advans this time, great grip in the dry, scary in the wet (280 hp revo stg 2).

Which Michelins by the way? Pilot Sport, Pilot Exalto, Pilot Primacy or what? Be interested to know as some last longer than others.

I have 225/40 18 Pilot Exalto 2s fitted, which I have been measuring every 2500 miles and now done a little over 8000; yet to work out how long they will last (data is at home) but will do so tonight.
