Corrosion to rear anti-roll bar

Featured Replies

I have been informed by a Skoda dealership during the car's annual service that the rear anti-roll bar is so corroded that it needs immediate replacement. The car, a Fabia estate, is five years old with less than 18,000 miles. The car is in pristine condition with no other corrosion issues. Skoda UK have refused to offer any goodwill payment to offset the replacement cost of £300 +. THe car passed its MOT three weeks earlier with no comments on this part. I am now getting it inspected by an independent motor engineer. I can't find anything on the forum about this issue. Has anyone else experienced this premature corrosion on the rear anti-roll bar ?

I thought that the fabia didnt have a rear anti roll bar as standard? Or is this an estate thing?

Presumably they mean the torsion beam?

Hmmm, need some clarification.

Certainly the hatch doesn't have a rear ARB as standard. :rubchin:

And £300 sounds laughable.

surely, whichever suspension part it is , if it needs immediate replacement now due too excessive corrosion , then it should have been picked up on and possibly failed on the MOT

AFAIK no Fabia model has a rear ARB , i suspect they mean front ARB , a known and common area for failure of the collars due to corrosion

do you mean rear axle beam - would have thought it would be ok -

but certainly get it checked -

I have now had the suspension of the car checked and you are right; no ARB on the rear and the beam is unblemished. The front ARB looks like new and has been reported as no wear in any of the bushes, etc. I have requested an explanation from the dealer.

Thank you to all who have replied.
