Seriously now!!! WTF is happening, gremlins?!

Featured Replies

Fabia vRS, 9/2005., Tuneline remap to 164hp.

Still under warranty for about two weeks more, I want to get rid of the friggin gremlin problems I'm having to which the official dealer says "that's all ok".

1. The steering is still very unresponsive although the steering rack was changed for a new one today!!! The car is all over the place, I mean, if you want to follow a line, you have to first turn the wheel, then the car wiggles, and then turn it some more to make the car really turn?!?! Can't really explain it but it wasnt there before!

It all started happening after something broke really loud on the freeway, I was going like 150km/h, everything started shaking and then suddenly *CRACK* and the car's steering became as it is today... Agh!?!? ANYONE?

2. The clutch is all mushy! It acts almost like an ON/OFF switch. You feel it getting a "grip" all the way down, but from there to almost fully depressed nothing happens and then it suddenly "grabs" the power and the car starts moving?!

The mechanic said it could be the flywheel... But he was very suspicious of my remap :-o

Please, if someone has any idea what this could be to help me out. I fear these are the first steps of a major mechanical failure that will 110% happen just when the warranty expires!

I'd bet money that the clutch problem is something to do with the remap.

As for the rack... perhaps they havnt set it up properly.

yep, the mechanic explained it to me, something with springs in it getting loose, so the flywheel cant gently deliver power but rough like it's happening to me. it got like that because of the excess torque by the remap. the thing is, my tuner (Tuneline) covers stuff like this by warranty! but you can't explain it to anyone because the clutch works, only not how.

Can the rack really be set up improperly? The wheel does stand to the right quite a bit, but I think it's more of an "laser wheel alignment" problem than the rack?

don't explain... let them take it for another test drive and let them know you want it fixed now under warranty...

if your turning the steering and the car isn't turning there is something seriously wrong , could be anything on front suspension/steering that is excessively worn or loose , get it checked out ASAP

that's just it! they jack the car up, kick everything, move everything, unwind and wind things and NOTHING is loose! it's just a mystery!

maybe they are not looking right... I'm almost mad now

I'm going there tomorrow but it's like fighting windmills.

the steering problem deffinately sounds like the rack i had that problem with my fabia you turn the wheel but nothing happens then you need to turn it again harder to get it to turn it is hard to explain but mine needed a new rack!

maybe they told you that they changed the rack but didnt bother?

As Octav.ed and Ric have said something is seriously amiss.

Get one of 'them' to take it out and see how he feels :thumbdwn:

Maybe then they'll see the light.

As I see it the car is verging on downright dangerous in this condition. :thumbdwn: :thumbdwn:

Oh no not dreaded rack problems

This is part of the reason I moved away from my Corsa, I swear Vauxhall make their racks from discarded plywood held together with melted babybel wrappers.

I got some pics of the suspension, I can't find anything odd.

Looks like the steering rack is really new!

Can you check under the bonnet, right hand side of engine. You can see the actual rack from there to see if it is new.
