I'm car-less

Featured Replies

My Vrs went in for a left hand wheel bearing to the garage today, making all the usual signs to be that. Mechanic agreed and changed it but its made no difference. He said the hub was warn but not excessivly enough to warrent changing.

He's now changing the right hand side bearing to see if its that - he's checked out the new tyres and rotated them all but nothing.

What else could be making the typical wheel bearing type noises (groening, rubbing type noise) when turning to right?

the protective metal plate behind the discs, sometimes these move forward and press on the disc make sure they are well bent back out the way :)

I'm going to do the same bearing myself hope it makes a difference on mine.

I had same prob 2 yrs ago ended up with shaft been rpl.

Would that make the same noises as a wheel bearing though? the noise only happens when turning the steering right any amount and the faster you go the louder it gets.

Yeah, I've just removed the towbar and the noise stopped. :D

All fixed now.

Both front wheel bearings replaced and the noise has stopped. He only charged me for one too because he agreed with my diagnosis of the one wheel bearing:D .

So it was the right wheel bearing that caused the problem even though when you turned right the groaning noise was heard?

Should n't this be the other way around usually?

Yeah, even the garage where suprised by it. They said that both the bearings needed replacing anyway.

This doesnt really help you though does it? Have you jacked up the car and doubled checked that it is the left hand one on your car?

None of the bearings wobble and i cannot hear any noise when the wheels are in the air,but mine had exactly the same symptoms as yours. I suppose i will have to start with the left then maybe do the right. The car has 98000 miles on so i suppose they will both need doing soon anyway.

I've just noticed your not far away from me. Small world and all that.

Anyway, mines done 84K and the garage said that one has been replaced before so its more than likely that it wont do any harm if you replace them. And the only way you can eliminate them is by replacing them and seeing if the noise goes.

Oh yeah. There seems to be alot of us on briskoda form the York/Hull area.

Anyway thanks for your help,your a star.
