Mk1 vRS DIY oil change

Featured Replies

Will be changing my oil over the weekend, but can't see in my Skoda handbook what volume I need for a full change. I've bought a 4L pack of Castrol EDGE from Opie, but don't know whether that's enough. Anyone got the official figures ?

Thanks,

Si

4.2L for a change with filter. 4L gets mine just above the minimum IIRC. I buy 5L for a change, then 4L the next time, then 5 and so on :D

Thanks Phil - time to check what's kicking around in my shed - sure there's some LongLife II on a shelf somewhere :)

just go and buy some more mate because oil does have a shelf life on it.

better safe than sorry?

how much does it cost for the oil and filter? also what's the best longlife oil to use ?and what is needed to remove the sump plug

Sump plug needs a 19mm ring spanner or socket.

Oil filter is around £5 and sump plug is about £1

There are lots of different views on oil. I use Mobil 1 0-40 which can be used as long life, although I don't leave it in that long. I have started buying oil from the Opie oils, the service is very good as are the prices.

flurking shnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mobil one's 44 quid for five litre's is there anything cheaper ?

i get mine from costco :D

£20+VAT bargin

i get mine from costco :D

£20+VAT bargin

Ditto. Around 23 with the VAT for 4 litres so youll need 2.

that's still over 40 quid and there's not enough for two changes with a filter ,as you might as well change the filter every time as the cost peanuts !!!!

oh yes!!! halford's £36:79 for 5 ltrs now that is a bargain (just) what's the best oil filter to get then and where from

A genuine filter

From and VAG dealer, Euro Car Parts or GSF.

what about one of those purolaitor ones

would a magnetic sump plug be a good investment for when your doing your next oil change?

Job's done: genuine Skoda filter, Castrol EDGE topped up with SLX, seems to be running nicely. Intended to fit my AwesomeGTI magnetic sump plug, but didn't bother in the end.

Si

I think magnetic sump plugs are a joke to be honest.
