Tyre Pressures

Featured Replies

I have a 1.9TDi Elegence Hatchback, it came with Dunlops SP 01 I've been inflating them with a calibrated gauge to the pressures according to the sticker on the filler flap.

However, the tyres have always felt a bit squidgy as though under inflated, spoke to Skoda - refered to sticker, explained using sticker and they don't feel right, spoke to dealer again refer to sticker.

Have now replaced the tyres at 18,600 and looking at the wear pattern they show signs of being under inflated.

Tyres are now replaced by Avon ZZ3's and would like to get the correct tyre pressures to a. give me the best grip on the road and b. give me better tyre life than the 18k I've just had (normally get 25-30K as I'm not a heavy driver on the tyres).

With my C4 I did get the axle weights and send of to Citroen who gave me actual pressures for the weights.

Unfortunately the car is a company car and the fitters didn't even get the tyre pressures right to the sticker.

Any ideas or suggestions??

Thanks

I tend to adjust my tyre pressures according to the feel of the car on the road, a bit experimental but a few psi at a time untill I get what feels right, and also like you have discussed some tyre manufacturers make their tyres with stiffer/softer compounds meaning more or less flex so again I find the pressure that suits both the tyre and the car.

Once i have the combination I tend to stick to that brand/pressure. The tyre pressures laid down by skoda I actually found to be a little under what I prefer too TBH.
