Fabia radio going bananas?

Hello - a new Fabia owner here, got a 2002 1.9SDI, and the radio is a bit odd. One day it started to do random things but has now settled down, however some of the buttons still don't do what they should. eg. if you press the traffic alert button it just flips to a particular station rather than turning on/off the alerts mode.

Is this something that a Skoda dealer can fix and if so any suggestions on what the damage is likely to be?

Or is there even a keypress that I can do that will restore factory defaults in a reboot kind of way?

TIA for any advice!

well if it flipped to a station with traffic on it then i'd be fine with it but it only ever flips to Classic FM.

if this is expected behaviour then fine, but in my previous car (also a skoda, but a felicia) i used to press the traffic button and it would then be on standby to switch to a station that currently had a traffic bulletin on.

The TP button takes you to the 6 preset stations stored in TP mode..... It's probably that the station last used in TP mode was Classic FM. I.E. when the TP button is pressed it's like switching between FM1 & FM2 etc.... Basically the radio actually has 18 presets for FM stations split into the following groups..... FM1, FM2 & TP.

For example if i am listening to FM1 preset 1 and then flick to TP preset 3 then back to FM1 the radio will automatically go to preset 1 in FM1. If i were then to press the TP button it would flick back to TP preset 3 as it remembers the preset used last.

I have the same 6 stations stored in TP 1-6 as i do in FM1 1-6. That way i can have my main stations with or without Traffic info.

It is a weird way of doing it but my VW Gamma worked the same way.

Cheers

Dave.

oh ok, so the radio has no way of switching on automatic traffic alerts then? by this i mean you're listening to your preferred station (preset or otherwise) then whenever the RDS signal for a traffic bulletin is detected the radio automatically cuts to that bulletin for its duration then flips back to your original station?

that's the behaviour i was expecting, if that's not the case so be it!

thanks both for your replies, it's appreciated.

When your listening to one of the 6 stations stored in the TP catagory..... (Press TP button so that it displays 'TP' on the left hand side of the display followed by whichever number 1-6), It will work as you say and will play traffic info.

The manual for the radio does explain it but in a roundabout way...... Do you have a manual as it may explain it better than i have.

Hope this helps as it's one of those that's a lot easier to show someone in person than explain remotely etc....:thumbup::thumbup:

Cheers

Dave.

ok, i've just had a fiddle around with it, and when you press TP the letters 'TP' don't appear on the display, it just flips to ClassicFM, then if you press on 1-6 it behaves as per normal (although in fact pressing "6" doesn't actually change the station).

in short, i am pretty convinced that the buttons aren't all doing what they should, most are, but some aren't, including this TP thing. can't get 'TP' to appear on the display at all...

ho hum
