Don't you just love new stuff

Featured Replies

So far this month I have:

Got a new Nokia N73 from work.

A hand me down Dell Latitude D620 from the boss, still loads better than the Inspiron I had.

Finally got my Media Centre PC sorted out, using a Hiper Media Centre Case like this one: Products - Media Center - HMC-1x53A

Which will look great under the 42" Tosh 1080p LCD I have just ordered!

Matching Tosh upscaling DVD player ordered from Play to partner it and my wallet is now empty.

It's quite expensive being a geek :thumbdwn: :)

Not fair.

Big kid

New toys - brill :)

I know what you mean! I've just bought a new tv too! :D Unfortunately my 2 year old HTPC doesn't like playing HD video! BOO!! :(

I have had to buy the gf an engagement ring though to get all this new stuff, I bought it then quickly ordered the TV and DVD player whilst she made squealy noises and skipped around the garden.

It's all back to normal now as she has said no to Sky HD :(

I suggest you build up a gadget war fund between now and the wedding. Then whilst she's skipping about squealing again thinking about dresses and honeymoons, you'll get a another window of opportunity.

It worked for me:thumbup:

Just bought SWMBO a new macbook for uni as well as an airport thingymibob as the Sky router is anti social(read: ****e) and won't talk to the mac. Trying to go down the Sky HD + HD plasma route but it's not happening. I thought the way to SWMBO's heart was through my wallet but that doesnt seem to be tha case

And to think I bought her a vRS a little while back

Shocking isn't it! Popped the question last night so apart from a PS3 for christmas all funds are now diverted to the wedding. At least I get to pick the cars, at the moment it's two matching 2007 S Class Mercs :D

I've got a shiny new Dell Latitude D830 laptop this week.

Mmmmmmm , 2gb memory :)

Nice, one of the lads in the office has the D830. Vista?

My new D620 has a Core 2 T7200 2ghz Processor

1gb of Ram

Nvidia Quadro Graphics (never heard of it)

Vista Experience Rating of 3.0

Going to install XP too and dual boot it as some software I require isn't Vista compatible and won't be updated.

Hello Dave

Which Toshiba 42 did you go for? I am on the look out for one but the masses of choice is starting to become confusing!:)

It dual boots to XP and Vista - makes my life easier when I can test stuff on both.

It's only got the basic onboard graphics as I don't need it for any 3d stuff but it does have the 1900x1200 screeen. It gets 3.4 on the vista experience for graphics but 4.8 or 4.9 for everything else which is ok for a laptop (not as high as my desktop though).

Makes my D610, with its 1GB RAM 1400x1050 screen show its age now! :(

Hello Dave

It's the 42X3030D.

Had a choice of three, the above Tosh, a LG 42LF66 and a Philips 42PFL7662D

Review of the Toshiba:

Toshiba 42X3030D Review – 42" Regza 1080p LCD TV Test

Thread on avforums.com:

X3030 Toshiba Owners & Pre-Owners Thread - AVForums

Had a budget of a grand and wanted 1080p, basically did a lot of reading and went to have a look at the sets in Comet and Currys, the Philips and LG didn't get very good reviews and the Tosh although not perfect got quite good reviews.

Try and find a shop where the TVs actually have an HD feed, normally they just have them fed through the aerial.

I know what you mean about choice, I spent about two weeks skulking around shops and reading up on the net. It's being delivered on Tuesday so I can give my impressions once it's set up.

Thanks Dave

The 42x3030D is on my list along with the Sony KDL 40w2000 and as you will beat me to it i would really like to hear your thoughts, warts and all,it is a fair amount of money to spend and i would like to keep mistakes to a minimum!!

I would join avforums if I was you, stick the model number into the search box and you'll find all the info you'll ever need!

My old Dell XPS M1710 is still chugging along nicely. Might upgrade the RAM at some point, 2gig is SO last year  1600x 1200 = enormous desktop :P

Congratulations on popping the big question Dave, hope you don't get chafing from the manacle like I do, that old ball and chain is bloody heavy

Modern man: Fueled by gadgets:D

I have a new N95 this week and Ive been fiddling with that, bloody good fun I tell ya:thumbup: I dont think the mrs understands how much gadgets mean to a man! Im suprised she hasnt asked which I love more, them or her:rofl: (we know the answer to that one:P )

Have fun with your new TV Dave, now all you need is a PS3 / EggBox 360:D

lol SWMBO wants a Nokia N95 for christmas as she is currently using my old N80 castoff and loves it. (sim free = 'kin expensive though).

There is also the N95 8GB model on the way that's black with a bigger screen etc so watch out for that one.

Another toy to add to my list, just bought an Xbox 360 from Chris G, haven't broke it to the other half yet :( May have to add a couple of hundred into the wedding fund just to keep her sweet!
